I know this is an old thread, but I just feel like reading/posting something positive for a change.
I just finished reading another thread where the original poster mentioned he was tired of going on this website and reading so many negative posts, and all the posters attacked him for this! I was a bit suprised because I mostly agreed with him. I understand we're all struggling with mental illness, but the guy (or girl, don't know) had good intentions. I joined this website last month, and although I really appreciate having a place to vent my frustrations and relate to others, I also noticed I feel more depressed after going on here. I think this is a great community that's very supportive and there are mostly very kind people here, which is wonderful, but I just think having some more positive threads wouldn't hurt.
I understand many of you are dealing with severe SA, depression, etc. but you have to have something to be thankful for and to look forward to in life. Otherwise, yeah, why would anyone want to go on living? I've struggled with some depression/SA for most of my life, used to be very negative and pessimistic, but gradually, I noticed that this type of attitude only makes life 10 times harder. I stopped complaining and making myself the victim, and instead started finding the good in everything/everyone and life has been easier and more enjoyable.
I think there is such irony in life. The more you wallow in your own negativity and bitterness, the more miserable your life becomes. Life is what you make of it. So if you don't fight for improvement and happiness, do not complain that life sucks. Life is tough for everyone, not just us, so stop complaining about it and do something to make it better! If you don't, you have no one to blame but yourself. What goes around comes around. And stop blaming God, too!
Yes, we all have good and bad days. I feel like most days for me are a rollercoaster of emotions/feelings, but at the end of the day, I always thank God for my blessings. At least I have the basic necessities in life that millions of people do not have, so how can I possibly complain?
I'm sorry if I'm dishing out advice like I'm some sort of expert on this. This is only my experience and thoughts on the subject. Anyways, I can go on and on, but I'll spare you. Here's what I'm grateful for:
- I am alive, safe and in good health.
- I have a wonderful family that loves me.
- I may not have many friends, but the few I have are irreplacable.
- I have a comfy home and good food to eat.
- I have the opportunity to improve myself/life each day and become happier.
- There are little things each day that make me see how beautiful life is and face each day with determination.
As we say in Portuguese (and I know in other languages, too), "hope is the last to die."
