When I think of movies that depict social anxiety well Punch-Drunk Love is always one that comes to my mind quickly, but I had never thought of Adam Sandler (the lead in the movie) with any of those issues personally, but when I was watching him on Ellen recently I was very much getting a familiar vibe from him. He may have just been regular old nervous for some reason, but nonetheless I was watching and he finished nearly every sentence with "I'm sorry" or "Thanks" which is something I will do when I get it in my head I don't say them enough, and then end up over saying them. His stories were all also sort of rambles, like something you plan in your head and sounds funny or interesting but when it comes out you don't have the confidence or conviction and it comes off as completely bland. Again, basically me every time I open my mouth.
The thing that really struck me though was when he was talking about going out, and more specifically about how he doesn't go out. Like he was talking about what he liked to do, and it was stay home, hang out with his kids, watch tv, and play basketball. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, just with everything else it lines up that perhaps being around people outside his comfort zone is, well, notably uncomfortable.
