talk to someone, talk to the clerks. I work at one. I wouldn't mind it if someone wanted to have a chat. Believe me, we are bored out of our minds, its not a very stimulating environment. B O R I N G. Have a go, talk to someone that works there see what happens.

I suppose you can talk about work. I work in the liquor dept so people will usually talk about that, ask about a wine or mention a beer they enjoy and a conversation will sometimes arise from that. I'm not so good a conversation myself, but yeah those are conversation starters. I think that's what you need, find a way to spark a conversation. Sometimes people will mention mundane subjects like the weather and a conversation will start. Don't overthink it i say, just go in there and talk to someone with no pressure about the outcome.

The line would have to be very, very long for me to do this. Because I can't just talk to someone for 4-5 minutes and ask them for their email, FB, number, etc. It's not enough time to hold a proper conversation, plus they most likely won't share with me their contact info. I have never made a friend at a grocery store. Most people are probably so busy shopping that befriending others doesn't enter their minds.

i agree with this...its too short a time to make any progress...unless you know you are going to see them at the same time, same day in that store. maybe try it with the clerks. Although i've known people to have details passed on to them after only a quick 2-5 min chat in a store, but its never happened to me:sad:

yes, I agree it to short and everyone to bussy to talk to. I am just using what I got to work with to grow my social skills up all I seem to have right now is grocery stores and restaurants like mcdonalds , bugerking and my computer for trying to meet people because I don`t drive. I am thinking about restaurants but I don`t know how people meet in their eather.

I think trying with a cashier may work. Go to a same cashier. As you see the same cashier more, i think there will be a small chitchat added on ordinary greetings.

Getting comfortable to talk to cashier or clerk gets you more relaxed to talk to customers I think.
Good luck.

It kinda seems like you could possibly make a friend there. Although alot of the time it seems like people in public are in their own little world.

I work in a small supermarket and enjoy chatting with the customers when it's more than just "Oh it's still raining outside". Most employees work a regular schedule, so you can be sure to bump into the same people at the same times which is a bonus. It might be possible to chat with the other shoppers, but I guess that would work best in maybe a sports store or a hobby/book store, where there is more to talk about.

Just make sure you don't keep talking to them too long if their supervisor is around, they might get in trouble for that depending on what the manager is like.

Well it's possible. It doesn't seem easy though. I mean if it was for dating you could just look at someone but with friendship it takes time normally.

IMO, it's very hard to make friends at the grocery store with other shoppers. Usually, they are too wrapped up in their own business and would look at attempts to strike up conversations or friendship as an intrusion/annoyance. Probably much easier to make a friend with someone who works there, especially if it's a store you frequent. They are always there and in no particular hurry to get away from a conversation with a stranger.
