ive been wondering if i have aspergers syndrome for awhile now , and i still dont have an answer. Although if i do , i dont think it would be such a bad thing. considering i have lived with it for this long , and well if this is all it is, i guess im ok with it.. i dont think it means we are stupid at all.. We see the world alittle differently maybe , but we are not stupid.

It's a good article, very thorough.

I definately have an Autism Spectrum Disorder, probably some degree of Asperger's. And i have SA as well :D
From the article: "The symptoms of AS mimic other disorders ... Social phobia is characterized by overwhelming anxiety and excessive self-consciousness in everyday social situations"

The doctors I've seen in the past years of my life have debated whether I have AS or just full blown Autism. They think it's AS right now which I kinda agree.

Really though, the only thing I don't like about it is because it's 1 of the disorders I have to make me as shy and hard to talk in a conversation. Not to mention, I take everything seriously... I have a hard time telling what's a joke, and what's not.

After reading extensively on AS I came to the conclusion (as did a psych) that I don't. A friend of mine does, but he has many other problems as well, and his AS is at the mild end of the spectrum.
A few other acquaintances have it. They're (or were, it was 10-12 yrs ago) street punks & were sorta proud to have it, every once in a while yelling out, "We have ass-burgers!! We have ass-burgers!!", so at least they had some fun with it.

Here is a more friendly site specifically aimed at those with it or needing more information about it: OASIS @ MAAP - The Online Asperger Syndrome Information and Support Center

They are talking about taking this syndrome out of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR) because not enough people have it. My question is what happens to the people who have already been diagnosed?

It haven't been disclosed yet, but the new plans are to switch out both Asperger's syndrome, Kanner's autism and so on with a single, linear disorder--based on severity. If they do remove it, there's going to be reactions to it. It's a stupid decission in my honest opinion, because in level of functioning, there's a huge difference between Asperger's and classic autism.

Kanner's syndrome is the same as 'infantile autism'. I loathe the term 'infantile autism', because the disorder is something that last the entire life, not just during infancy.

I don't have Asperger's Syndrome, but people thought about me, having it ::p: But I got diagnosed with MCDD when i was 5 years, a little kid.
It's an unknown autism disorder of the spectrum, i'm not sure if people in the U.S and worldwide know about this disorder, but I think it's related to Social Anxiety Symptoms, very much. Children have a development disorder, because they can't cope with social situations. And they are ''the shy timid child'' in school. It's much more deeper, it's like Selective Mutism, and a bit like Asperger's Syndrome, but people with MCDD are a little different, but somehow they are related to eachother, like family, also with PDD-nos and highfunctional autism:). But, don't worry about it, assburger people seem pretty smart to me ;) , But a lot of autistic people have SA also.
Sadly some people never know, but i'm glad we know what we've got, what our struggle is :)

Asperger's (or anything on the autistic spectrum) is something you're born with. It can't be caused by physical or mental trauma, drug use, infections or stuff like that.
