wait let me rephrase,
At first depressing due to growing disappointment, now I just don't mind
I almost feel more comfortable if nothing big happens. :D

I did this year. Starting to feel old.

Also had to work a 10 hour day so it wasn't much of a bday.

Yes don't want to be an old lady :S it seems like sometimes younger people take advantage of older people and beg them for candy and crap on valentines and so on.

Not anymore, really.

It did depress me a lot to see everyone try a little less every year. My last birthday everybody just kinda forgot, not even a phone call or anything. Well, my dad send me an E-mail containing exactly one line around 11PM that day. And my mom did get some treats for potential guests.

After that last time I just don't really care anymore.. Why make one day more important then the others? A year is nothing more then a universally agreed upon time measurement after all. It holds as little significance to my life as 356 breaths, 356 steps, 356 heartbeats (ect.).

I'd rather spread joy over the course of the year itself. Birthday parties are merely formal to me now.

I'm sorry, but that immediately made me think of this and I don't want to the only one singing it for the next 3 weeks :D

I figure it should be your own personal holiday. That's why I am taking off work next time.

Puma, do tell when you have birthday!! If Pookah is taking off work for it, the rest of us can figure something out too!! :D

We can have a huge SPW International Worldwide party!!

(With Pookah bellydancing and everything!! :D)

There will be good weather then, most probably! :) Remind us a few days in advance, to get the bellydancing gear and all? :D

Some forums put up reminders so people can congratulate each other.. I wonder if something like that is possible here too?
(Though on the other hand it's better to be a bit incognito about your real data.. but hey who cares, we could celebrate a week sooner or later too!! :D)

Has anyone remembered to congratulate the OP?

Oh, lol. No need. I have all those things right here in my clos-.. Eh, I mean, yeah. I'll remind y'all. ^W^;

The thing with those reminders is that they often seem a little in-genuine. I like the natural approach, by just noting down the person's birthday when they mention it in idle conversation so I can surprise them. Their smiles and appreciation is pretty priceless. :3

Well, comparing mine to my cousin's whose are like, 100x better because they actually go out to places to celebrate, you would think yes, but I'm pretty content with what I get. Just buy me a video game, I'll be happy for roughly two to three months depending on the game.

My uncle is much more wealthy than my dad so my cousins get to go to baseball games (even though I don't like sports, free food is cool in my book), laser tag places (it's fun even though I suck at it. xD), ect.

I hate it, and its false categorizing. I just want to be me and remain me rather than me at this or that age. I don't like the thought of people a few years younger, experiencing all the things I haven't yet experienced.
Ive always had silly thoughts like this though. I remember dreading being 12. Thinking each year around then that things would start drastically changing and I'd have to start becoming an "adult". If only I had been told, or knew that nothing like that would change, and still hasn't, I would have been more relaxed about birthdays.

My 21st birthday is coming in a couple of weeks and it makes me sad. I'm a girl yet i haven't explored fashion enough. i don't even really know how to curl my own hair. I only celebrate my birthday with my parents and brother and even that seems unremarkable because we aren't close and it seems like once they sing the happy birthday song and i blow the candles out and we divide the cake for eating there's nothing else to be done.
As for friends, forget it. I get birthday wishes from my two cousins who i'm close with but that's about it. I don't know anyone at school. And the one person I do know is more like an acquaintance in class.

Happy Birthday in advance=) For the fashion part, like curling your own hair, you can borrow a book from the library that teaches you how to do it, not that they teach much, but they'll give you a general idea how you can go about it, and with time, practice, and most importantly, interest, you would be able to do it quite well. When I first started wearing makeup and doing my hair, I had start from scratch, no one had thought me a single thing. Usually, stuff like these are taught by mothers and is something mothers and daughters explore together but since my mom doesn't wear makeup nor approve of it, I had been self taught and can apply it quite expertly now, and differentiate between a gel linear Vs pencil linear Vs crayon linear, and the different hair rollers for the different effects etc. I am sure you'll be able to do it too with some determination, practice and interest, good luck :)
