Acting classes starting in less than 4 hours

I enrolled on an acting class for this semester at the university and the nerves are starting to kick in. I suggested this myself to my therapist and he said it was a good approach to meet new people and help me with the process of socializing with others. I also did it because I remember enjoying it back in the day but that was 7 years ago!!!! Now, I'm very uneasy about the idea and I barely could get some sleep last night. I was so uncomfortable that I kept waking up every 2 hours. It seems that my anxiety is starting to kick in because is not the same thing doing something in front of a public that you don't know and that probably are more experienced than you in that field. Also, the question of "what if I make an idiot of myself" always hangs on with you but I did this in order to start dealing with my situation.
It is quite ironic because I took a class of Theatre Appreciation on Thursday for the first time and it is a very dynamic class but I felt quite comfortable once I met the professor. Now, it's a very different story::(:

Im sure you'll do fine, wish you the best with the class and I hope you'll enjoy it tho you're probably not enjoying the feeling right now.

Since it's the first class it'll probably be reasonably short and non-threatening. It's also likely that they'll ease you into the acting slowly, I can't imagine that they'd drop you right in at the deep end straight away. So just try to take it one class at a time as there's no point in worrying too far in advance. In any case, well done for going through with this, it's a big step and very brave.

Aw you'll do great! I'm sure the nerves will start to go away as you begin to become more comfortable. Good luck! Hope it went well.

Its normal to be a little nervous at first. But I'm sure it'll get easier with time specially because its something you enjoy doing. Also its a great means of facing your fears, deciding to take the class is a huge step itself. Good luck :)

If it's a good class and the professor/teacher is any good, there will be lots of little 'warm-up' exercises to get to know each other etc.

You're *supposed to* 'make an idiot' out of yourself in some of the exercises, in fact that's part of the FUN!! :)
A lot of really good COMEDY (and some tragedy) is basically someone willing to go that far, or further!! (and sometimeas paid A LOT to do it lol!!)

Some classes may also even have assignments 'in the street' etc (later on), so that you lose fear of doing strange things in front of strange people - actually it can be very good YEAH!! :)

If you would get uncomfortable by any of it (if the professor would have you go too much at the 'deep end' or such) you can always excuse yourself and walk out, go to the loo etc. If any of the exercises might make you physically uncomfortable (eg 'neck' relaxation...) you can tell them you've got health problems and can't do it or such...

All in all, I had GREAT FUN in the classes & wishing it goes GREAT for you too!!

Just imagine how RELAXED you'll be afterwards!!

Or has it happened already? (I never know about the time zones :)) How did it go? :) Keep us posted!!

Hi everyone! Everything went just fine today! I was a little bit uneasy at first because the first excercise the professor wanted to do was walking around a small stage with the whole group( we are 20 in total) and look at each one of the room in the eye and the excercise took 90 seconds. Afterwards, he ask us how we felt and I dare myself to share with the room that I wasn't very good at making eye contact and that it was something that made me nervous. But the second time we did it I felt a little better. Then, we did an excercise that implied " passing the energy" onto the next partner by clapping each others hands constantly. It really was a lot of fun. I guess I still have to see how I'll react to doing a play in front of everyone which is totally different. But I have to thank you guys for your support!!!! It is really great! I think your positive energy help me through.
