American literature...we're reading Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. It's not just a matter of people learning, it's a matter of being engaging, creating meaningful and pedagogically sound activities, giving assignments the right amount of weight in terms of value (a test is worth "X" points, where this homework assignment is worth "X" points. The hardest thing has been getting the class of teenagers to engage with me. I can try to be as engaging as I like as a teacher, but if I can't get response from my students, it doesn't mean much. There's so much planning involved that it quickly becomes rather overwhelming.
