are you offended by profanity?

It doesn't offend me, but I do get slightly irritated when people use it all the time.
Of course, I never use profanity, and neither does my husband, so we don't hear it much anyway lol.
Oh and also, I should add - I'm much more intimidated by people who do swear!

Swearing to me implies that they are self conscious enough to feel as if they need to swear as a defense mechanism........... Man, I feel biased, because that's why I swear, but not necessarily why other people do, I bet they genuinely feel anger, in which I'm afraid of. Uhm.. Opinionless Comment.
It all depends on how it's used. When people get creative with it I can be fine with it, even appreciate it.
For example when somebody is playing a game and dies for the 42th time and rather then spouting ''Aw, s**t!'' shouts ''Aw, horse p***y!'', it can really make me laugh. For me it's all about when, and how, profanity is used.
It's all expression as far as I'm concerned, and the negative emotions rarely get expressed in their rawest intensity, while positive emotions usually are. You could almost say that I consider creative swearing a vocal art form.

I don't find it offensive in the sense that I resent the person and/or I'm shocked, but I do find it annoying if the person is a pottymouth. When every other word is a swear word, it just takes away from what he or she is trying to say, in my opinion.
So saying, if someone wants to swear that's fine by me, but I have no need to. The past couple years I began to swear more often and I realized how trashy it sounded, and have toned it down quite a bit. I used to not swear at all.

I'm the same, and I agree with you, Ghastly. And that whole "limited vocabulary" argument is a load of f**kin' bollocks.

No, it doesn't bother or offend me. Pretty much everyone swears - it's a good emotional outlet.

Mainly just in real life, or on tv/web when it excessive, unecessary & out-of-context. In real life it can make me very anxious, and possibly riles-up my fight/flight instincts, and at worst it can stir-up anger or rage. And the worst is when random strangers on the street do it, esp if it's done in a really loud & racous way. There (on street) I find it totally unacceptable, disgusting, lowly/common and obnoxious. It's like they don't give a flying van-d*mn f*ck about any other people around them.
Might be a learned thing though, as my parents have never tolerated any profanity whatsoever.

I use vocabulary but curse a lot, but I seldom feel the need to speak anyway as I just find people are inherently stupid and not worth wasting my time with. Few people have I felt comfortable around and had a real conversation.

I sometimes find profanities insanely funny (comedians, movies), but when it's uttered in real life by people who are insanely frustrated or angry it can get very annoying. It depends on the tone, the context, etc. I don't mind the words so much, more the fact that a person lacks such self control and is so obnoxious.
In Dutch some people like to curse with the disease "cancer" and I really dislike that.

Words can be very powerful. In and of themselves they are nothing, but the way we use them means a lot.
