Scared of time flying by

Is anyone really bloody scared how fast time flies by? Today is election day and 2 years ago we also had elections and I thought to myself, holy crap, that felt like yesterday.

It scares me how fast time passes by, and how little I've really accomplished in those 2 years. It's really only gone downhill for me.

I have become a little obsessed with time, and how fast it can fly by, especially if you're not living fully.

I have that too, it stems into having to be productive all the time in fear of wasting it, if i make a wrong decision I always feel like iv wasted a small amount of valuable time.. it gets to the point where i cant relax/ cant watch tv. quite intrusive really:/

I used to be scared of it. Now i simply notice but without the fear.

I used to worry about accomplishing or not accomplishing, now i just dont care anymore and try to do what makes me happy every day.

This is the best attitude.

I know the feeling about it.
But I try to remmeber its just an illusion really.
You dont HAVE to "age" in my opinion.

I know what you mean, I'll be 19 in exactly two years from tomorrow and it only feels like last week I turned 10. Soon I won't be able to enjoy all the privileges of being young..

Try hypnotic time distortion, there are many ways to use it just have a browse on the web. you can make your days go slower.

Me too. This realisation prompted a succession of major changes I made in my life. Somebody said to me ( the best advice I ever got) "You can either go after that or not. In x years you'll either have achieved it or you'll still be talking about it. Either way x years are going to pass."

Some days, the faster it goes, the better.

Time will always feel like it's fleeting, but that's normal. Whether or not we achieve what we want will still make time go by at what feels like an alarming rate. I'm not too worried about it, really. Ask me when I turn 30. :)

I do, constant actually. I would say time flying by so fast is one of my biggest fears. And as you do, I always have this sensation that I've really done nothing in the past few years. It scares me. It scares me the possibility that one day I'll wake up and be in the same position that I am right now without actually moving forward. I always make big plans but very rarely get them to fruition. I know that is something I have to improve myself because time ain't waiting on me to get on my feet, but sometimes is a little bit difficult for me to get the courage to do certain stuff. So no, you are not alone in this thought. I think all the post I've made previously are somewhat link to this same topic you are discussing. It is refreshing to see that I'm not alone.

Hi gustavring, its exactly what I'm very afraid of, and its a thing that makes me really depressed. in my life, since school 2 and a half years have passed by and i have accomplished absolutely 0. time flies by so fast. I'm definitely going to get help from a professional, because I'm that nothing will change if I keep living how I'm doing it now.

It's something that freaks me out all the time.
I hate it.
Seems like my birthday was just yesterday.
But my next is just next month.

I accomplished absolutely nothing this year.
When I had such plans/goals at the beginning of it.

I hate getting older.
Looking at my face in the mirror and seeing my youth fad in an absurd speed.

Time and how fast it goes by is a big obsession of mine. It causes me so much dread and anxiety. I just have this feeling like I am running out of time.

I read somewhere that we overestimate what we can do in a day, but underestimate what we can do in a year. So it is the little steps that will get us ahead. I read that a long time ago, and yet, I still can't get myself to commit to any sort of plan.

I imagine that most people will get caught up with time passing them by because of what society leads us to believe.

We are told that we need a newer car, bigger house, more expensive clothes, and so on. This endless stream of materialism means that we have to spend more time at work, doing a job we hate, in order to get more junk. So sure we buy all the cool new stuff, but the excitement that we have over these things starts to dissipate over time. All the effort we put into getting these short bursts of newly bought happiness could be utilized for more fulfilling experiences. Hanging out with family and friends, reading a good book, or walking about the city or country, can be a thousand times more fulfilling then waiting on line to buy an overpriced pair of sneakers before everyone else.

Also we are led to believe that if we don’t go out to party, do drugs, and have casual sex every other day then we are not having a good time. People will say, “You don’t want to go out tonight? God you are so boring!”. Well I say that I shouldn’t have to go out and do something I'd rather not do in order to feel like I'm "living life to the fullest". I should train myself to be happy with as little stimuli as possible. You don’t need to overload your senses with blaring music and cheap booze to feel good.

If you stop thinking about all the time you are wasting by not being happy, and instead just reflected on being alive in the moment, then time won't matter so much.

yeah, but I have seen people achieve a lot in a short amount of time as well from not having anything not really functioning in the world to doing relatively okay, I don't like the idea of getting old but I'm hoping I'll achieve the same. Somethings aren't written in concrete. Hopefully that will be the same with cell rejuvenation and we will age like galapagos tortoises.

Kat is this what you mean when you say you want to look like a Galapagos tortoise when you get older. ::p:

I think about it all the time. I have all these goals and ideas for leading a fulfilling life, but I keep thinking how it's going to take awhile because I need to improve from SA first. And I fear it won't be 'til I'm like 40 that I'll finally be confident and start crossing things off my bucket list. Better late than never I guess ::(:
