A few years ago I was told "he's had a very sheltered life."

You know who said that? My boss.

when my dad was around, he used to always say 'hey! She's out of the bear cave' when I came out of my room. Agh!

That would be annoying because it would make too much of a deal about you doing anything, so that would make you want to leave your room even less.

i think people fear anything slightly different to what there brain has been trained as normal so if someone is not like me why are they not like me they must be like me il help make them like me. its the sick egotistical ideology bread in to society.

in the past 10-15 years it seems everyone is desperate to be seen to have some sort of attention reality tv, talent shows like x factor ect, these people simple dont understand not everyone wants to be the centre of attention.

another one i hate is, "hes coming out of his shell"

just when you start feeling more confident this comment makes you go right back in to your shell like it was so obvious you where louder than usual people noticed enough to say it.

"well look who finally decided to join us!" (when i would venture out of the safety of my bedroom to attempt socialization...all eyes would be drawn to me with this stupid form of greeting.)

This wasn't something that was said but it was an incident that pretty much scarred me for life when it comes to being self conscious about the slightest little blemish on my face:
I got one zit as a teen...other than that looking back my face was always flawless. but the one zit i got my stepfather chased me around the house with a videocamera taunting me about my zit. he handed the camera to my brother so he could pull my hair back and grab me by the face to film it. i was crying hysterically in the video...my mother still has it. to this day i get completely anxious about my skin and absolutely hate being videotaped.

another phrase, "hey sourpuss"
"good morning happy!" (i'm NOT a morning person and having people poke fun at this just makes it worse)
"WOW. you actually showed up." (happens whenever i go out with people...draws attention to the fact that i'm a horrible friend and humiliates me.)
"V never finishes anything. i don't know why she even bothers."
"you take everything the wrong way." (how is it even possible to take EVERYTHING the wrong way...logic tells me I'd get at least ONE thing correctly interpreted.)
"oh my God you are such a crazy bitch"

People can say whatever they want to me. I don't feel like a victim and will gladly stand up for myself, social anxiety or not.

Ugh, sounds like the stuff my siblings used to do to me.

I hate that every time I see or talk to my sister, one of the first things out of her mouth, "got a girlfriend yet?"
No quit asking and quite reminding me I don't geez!

Also my mom like to point out how much money I spend on projects or other things that don't work and I loose lots of money, I feel like a failure at that point, and she like to point out the fact that im constantly failing, hurts worse when I others tell you what your thinking, when you think it you can tell yourself that it just in your head, when others say it its must be true :/

Man this thread brings back so many awkward, embarrassing and annoying memories of my life. I experienced most of these phrases when I was younger. I think to some degree it made my SA even WORSE. As an adult I'm much more social and open with myself, so I don't hear it much anymore. And if someone does tell me something that bothers me, I stand up for myself and let them know.

I have a good friend who I hang out with a lot, who has no clue about SA nor cares to even learn what it's about. If he asks why I don't do something, or am a certain way, I try to explain myself and his only response is "Why!?", with this look on his face like I'm stupid or something. I just shrug it off and tell him because that's the way I am! He usually gets mad and then we immediately change the subject lol. Luckily all of my other friends understand me and what I go through.

Social anxiety and others

What other things are there? I can't think of any more but these are my top 10 for sure.

I make sure I never say any of that to anyone, knowing how much it stung when I had stuff like that said to me during my childhood/early teen years.

Oh, and this one: "Are you mute?" - rhetorically asked by an obnoxious boy in my primary school.

teachers have used the "stop making so much noise!" one on me so many times. And you're put completely on the spot as the entire class turns around and looks at you:mad:
