After a a really long hiatus, I finally decided to start drawing again - I finished a charcoal drawing that I started about 6 months to a year ago. It's a portrait of Jane Lane from Daria. I'm going to redo her ear cause it looks like sh-t:

I love Daria, I've seen every episode. Mostly because it relates to me (Quinn is exactly like my social butterfly sister, my family is dysfunctional like theirs, and Daria is like me but female.)

You mind critiques? I myself draw a lot, not much on paper anymore. I've moved onto digital drawing and getting pretty good at it. I just have to learn how to color...

I've used charcoal before and i gotta say, i just don't like it... I don't have fluid hands strokes that girls have, i make a lot of mistakes and with charcoal its a one time deal.

Nice job though :D

I'm open to critiques, all it can do is increase my skill :) I already know this piece is pretty sloppy by artist standards but, oh well. I can still fine-tune the rough edges.

I've found that the secret with charcoal is to have a kneadable eraser handy and use lots of workable fixative to prevent the charcoal from sliding all over the paper.

Well, then I guess i'll just point out the things that caught my attention... :rolleyes:
I found that the left side of the neck makes the position of the head a bit awkward; it's a little bit too big for the head, lol. And, I don't know how old this "Jane Lane" is, but the lines that distinguish her cheek from her mouth makes her look like shes old, just because of how thick it is. I've found that "youngsters" when they smile they have this :)I) small lines from the corner of their mouths. Idk, what to call them, lol... Other than that, *thumbs up*

I'd love to draw again. haven't picked up a pencil / pastel stick in a year though. Been too busy. I really want to take a life drawing course or 2 but my program doesnt allow it! ugh

Her neck is proportionate..I think? Lol. I copied it from a photo of Christina Ricci - not the same photo I linked here but just to show how wide her neck looks at that angle - and then I adjusted the eyebrows, hair, cheek bones, and clothes to fit the character so maybe I just shaded it wrong, or maybe it's too short. The picture I worked from had a high collar so I improvised and now that I see the new picture, I just realized that I did it backwards.

I was wondering about the smile lines when I was working on them. I was kind of afraid I'd age her a bit too much ::(:

As Davinci said, art is never finished, just abandoned. You can always post something and call it a work in progress. That picture you drew on a chalkboard during Halloween was pretty sweet...

mhm, Steven Spielburg says that about films... Lol, but in my case i think i abandon to early...

Also, that picture wasn't me, it was some other asian guy. ::p:
