What do you guys think of this generation today?

Well, the people that have those taste in music are probably people I wouldn't like because in a way it tells who they are.
Only slightly. I hope you're not discarding some potential friends/partners due to their taste in music. ::(:

Movies are just ****ing perverted most of the time. Or doesn't make sense at all. Not all but most/some.
Yeah, I really, really hate sex scenes in movies. Unless it's absolutely crucial to the plot, leave it out. If I want to watch sex scenes, I will put on some porn.

Anyway, you shouldn't feel bad for what you've done, Mikey. It's easy to bow down to peer pressure, most people do it. You have to be proud that you've become a great guy no matter your past acts :)
Oh, I'm not regretting anything. :) Alcohol was a good escape and it still would be today but I think I'm getting old and I'm over it. I have been offered cigarettes while drunk and apparently I have accepted three times (I only ever remember one), yet I'm still not a smoker. I've also been offered weed and pills and have said no, too, despite my lack of self-esteem. These have all been offered by my best friend, believe it or not.

I will admit that if I was offered sex and I was confident enough I would go through with it. My anxiety with girls is preventing me from doing anything so I would have to take advantage if that situation ever arose.

Thank you for the kind words, mate. :)

Doesn't sound like a great friend :p
Just kidding.

If I could go back, I would refuse the sex again. Sex doesn't matter to me, I want love. Without love, there is no sex for me. And apparently, there is no love for me, so there will be no sex.

He's okay but he's quite manipulative so I need to work around that.

Sex without love happens more than you think, so to have both would be great. There will be love for you, Jones. Just you wait!

I don't have much hope. I've been waiting and I've been searching and I've been trying, but we're going out of topic here.

I don't really like most of the music on the radio these days. I don't listen to it on my own, only when someone else is playing it.

Well, the people that have those taste in music are probably people I wouldn't like because in a way it tells who they are.

I'm not into politics but I only think it gets worst as the world grows.

Movies are just ****ing perverted most of the time. Or doesn't make sense at all. Not all but most/some.

Technology... I love it.

What I've noted is how generic and immature themes in movies etc are. They think just because they have sex and violence etc in something it makes them adult. It just makes them hopelessly inept. Gone are the great thinkers, the real visionaries.

Movies are actually much, much tamer these days than they used to be. To the point that they've become pretty dull and lifeless. The mainstream had adopted a standardised misogyny though which is annoying. At least exploitation films in the past knew that they were being completely tasteless (which is why I love them).

As for the alcohol discussion... it doesn't always come with sleaze and violence. I have a drink with friends once a week, stupid things happen sometimes, but it's usually just entertaining. If you spend too much time worrying about what other people are doing your youth will quickly pass you by.

music and lyrics these days are nothing but sex, sex, sex

what is wrong with these kids?

Empty Bed Blues Bessie Smith - YouTube

Empty Bed Blues

I woke up this morning with a awful aching head
I woke up this morning with a awful aching head
My new man had left me, just a room and a empty bed

Bought me a coffee grinder that's the best one I could find
Bought me a coffee grinder that's the best one I could find
Oh, he could grind my coffee, 'cause he had a brand new grind

He's a deep sea diver with a stroke that can't go wrong
He's a deep sea diver with a stroke that can't go wrong
He can stay at the bottom and his wind holds out so long

He knows how to thrill me and he thrills me night and day
Oh, he knows how to thrill me, he thrills me night and day
He's got a new way of loving, almost takes my breath away

Lord, he's got that sweet somethin' and I told my girlfriend Lou
He's got that sweet somethin' and I told my girlfriend Lou
From the way she's raving, she must have gone and tried it too

(Part 2)

When my bed get empty make me feel awful mean and blue
When my bed get empty make me feel awful mean and blue
My springs are getting rusty, sleeping single like I do

Bought him a blanket, pillow for his head at night
Bought him a blanket, pillow for his head at night
Then I bought him a mattress so he could lay just right

He came home one evening with his spirit way up high
He came home one evening with his spirit way up high
What he had to give me, make me wring my hands and cry

He give me a lesson that I never had before
He give me a lesson that I never had before
When he got to teachin' me, from my elbow down was sore

He boiled my first cabbage and he made it awful hot
He boiled my first cabbage and he made it awful hot
When he put in the bacon, it overflowed the pot

When you git good lovin', never go and spread the news
Yes, he'll double-cross you, and leave you with them empty bed blues

You know I make up for the lack of knowing what someone's voice sounds like. As I read everyone's responses, I make up an accent, gender, tone of voice, so on. :p

No need to judge a person that way when you have the facts here.

Either it rules or sucks. What do you think of the music today, the movies, politics, the people, and the technology? Do we live in a generation that looks okay or sucks?

I like the technology; I do think the internet provides some benefits to people.

I’m a bit of a computer junkie myself but I am still waiting for the days for a egalitarianism system and asimo takes over our jobs and all humans really have to do is get lost in their interests.

Are you saying that movies tend to portray women in one dimension? I'm not exactly disagreeing, but I don't know what you mean, exactly.

I guess it's more my problem with music. I don't appreciate pop singers aimed at children like Kesha, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, etc who (controlled by male managers) only sing about how women can only be strong and independant through sex in their music. I have no problems with people singing about that stuff at all, but the idea that they're seen as 'strong women' is hilarious and sets a misogynist precedent that I don't like given that this music is aimed at children who haven't formed their own musical tastes yet. I've seen family members who are 5 years old singing S&M, that freaks me out. I just don't think there's any kind of intellect behind any of it as there was with someone like Kate Bush. They've simply sat in to a standardised 'tough female' role that was set up by marketing men. So what I mean by it is that movies and music are offensive or not as they've always been (if you choose to be offended over that kind of stuff), but now it's glossed over with false pretenses.

But then again I was way in to Depeche Mode's Master and Servant as a kid, which although isn't misogynist in any way isn't exactly the most child friendly pop music, so I can't say that it hasn't always been there.

Forget Rihanna and Gaga, Pitbull is the ultimate misogynist. Pretty much all of his songs are about sex, girls and partying (though I hate how catchy they can be), and all of his music vids feature scantily clad girls dancing. Don't even get me started on Tyler the Creator songs (one of his songs has this line: "rape a pregnant bitch and tell my friends I had a threesome").

As for which generation is better in general, I'd say it's subjective. Though I do think my generation had a better childhood than the current one. I can't stop myself from thinking "Get off my lawn!" when I see kids today...

I don't really find them misogynist at all, I just find their pretense amusing because it's so fake. I guess that's just exacerbated because I hate their music. ::p:

As for Tyler the Creator, I've never heard of him before but that line is definitely... special?

WOAH! They seriously let someone say that in a song? Thats terrible, but I do agree with you. But it's not only Pitbull it's so many artists, a lot of the ones my brother listen to (probably a whole ten pages of names.) convey messages of hurting women and using them as sexual objects. It's really sad.

I guess Luther Campbell's (2 live Crew) crusade paid off. I don't think it's a big deal they let them make these records (freedom of speech and all), what's sad is they are on major labels being pushed by major radio and tv networks.

Some experts say that there are 4 types of generations though, from strict to loose and it repeats. We are probably at the end of the loose cycle with today's kids raising their kids with a strict 'no fcking way you will do what I did' mentality and end up with a pretty decent generation after that. Todays kids are being raised by a bunch of people with really no worries (we where fine, I'm sure our kids will, too). Not much discipline at all. The next generation of parents will have to make sure they don't end up with a bunch of Snookie's and Rifraf's ....

I agree with what you said, but I'll take it a step further with the music videos. That's the ultimate in sexuality with these girls. It's like I'm watching porn or something. I hate watching them. I have also seen young girls singing such songs, too. It's really weird.

As a lover of all things heavy metal, let me assure you that there are some songs and albums and bands that depict these things, too. It's all a matter of taking them tongue-in-cheek.

I have two albums by a band simply called Whore. No guesses what they sing about. While I don't condone what they're saying, I take it with a grain of salt and I know they wouldn't go out and do these things in real life. I know of another band whose song titles I will not write here and that is much worse.

However, I am taking this viewpoint from a male's perspective, while a female like yourself would find such things a lot more offensive, which I don't blame you for.

The bands/artists of course they just talk. Make catchy music, get paid, why would they care what they put in their lyrics? But theres always that one weirdo who will act upon the words of somebody they look up to. Just something to think about. I don't really listen to heavy metal, I do some bands and know they say offensive things.
I'm not offended per say, just disappointed. From the meaningful lyrics of The Beatles, Pink Floyd all the bands that actually write with meaning to the 'YO WHERE MA HOE AT? IMMA GONNA RAPE HER!'
