Tips for sleeping well

What are yours?
************

  • Have regular sleep/awake times; no napping during the day
  • No phones/computers in the bedroom or at least switch them off
  • Dont have bedding thats too warm
  • Fall asleep to radio/calming music/white noise
  • Limit caffeine
  • Let go of those thoughts or turn them down like a radio if they wont go

I noticed that clearing your mind several hours before you go to bed helps a lot.
Wash/bath a (few) hour(s) before you go to bed.
Reserve the later evening for things YOU want to do, so that you don't feel used/negatively tired while trying to fall asleep.

Get into a gym late in the day where convenient, getting there by bike.

Run for at least 20 minutes
or until exhausted

Lift weights as heavy as you can per section of body: abs, back, pull-ups, legs & arms. When you can't lift any more, put the stack down a pin and do another set, and keep repeating that...

conceptII rowing machine: 8km at the highest resistance setting. Never stop until you get 8km. Your energy will keep flowing. Don't ever think you've had enough. You'll love it, and you'll be laughing

then
Burn at least 200 calories in 10 minutes on a climbing machine

then
Find a punchbag and fire off your frustration

Ride home, have a shower, and relax

Nice list, phocas :) You basically listed all of mine, but I have a few more to add...

- Instead of listening to music, I wear earplugs. I'm a very light sleeper, the smallest sounds usually wake me up.
- Pillows! ^-^ I sleep with 3 pillows under my head, sometimes 2.
- If you can't calm your mind at night, I've found just writing it all out in a notebook or just on paper helps. It helps me calm my mind anyway.

I like this idea. :)

Running around with a toddler all day helps, but I think either sufficient brain non-activity involving television OR an extensive period of exertion of any sort are both viable options.

No caffeine (chocolate, coffee) after 6pm
No TV or movies involving action/suspense or rapid editing
No videogames 2 hours before bed

If you're in an apartment, sleep with earplugs

Eat calming foods an hour before bed: Sleepytime tea/warm milk, bananas, peanut butter, whole wheat toast. All of these have natural ingredients to settle your system down and make your lids heavy.

  • Limit caffeine

One late night I had drank about five cups of coffee when a thunderstorm cut my power out.

The caffeine not allowing me to sleep mixed with the pitch black and inability to do anything but think caused me to have a panic attack.

It was the closest to insanity I've ever felt.

get plenty of sunlight during the day

when it gets dark, your body will want to shut down

if you don't get enough sunlight, your body will want to keep going

get outdoors

move around

stop thinking so much, and enjoy the moment

I heard from somebody that a sleep-doctor said that 90% of sleep problems are from dehydration.

Every since I started drinking a lot of water, at least 8 glasses a day, I sleep like a baby.

Try it and if it doesn't work at least you will be a little healthier, but it worked like a charm for me, and I've taken prescription pills for sleeping be4 that didn't work as good
