Hello,
I rarely post on here anymore mainly because I prefer to use the chat feature, however I think I should post today about how I feel.
I feel absolutly desperate, I have adhd and so I have an attention span of about five minutes. This has caused me a great amount of distress and pain. I have never read a book from cover to cover, even typing out this post feels horrible because I am getting bored already.
My life has been a continual struggle, switching between task to task and never finishing what I start.
I have felt suicidal about it, and i would say I have suicidal thoughts everyday.
I am desperatly unhappy and have tried so hard to understand things.
I can't study because of this obviously and I am expected to find a job, I has a job in libraries for 3 years but I left because i couldn't cope anymore (and they were treating me like crap but i won't get into that here)
already I have forgot what i started talking about in this thread, this is another adhd thing.
I have no memory, no ability to form memories.
Verbally I seem to be sometimes quite inteligent, I guess I vacilate between inteligence and utter stupidity.
My mind is constantly going far too fast, I wish i was dead.
I have tried everything i can think of,
I have tried using a copious amounts of omega 3 and B-vitamins and I have just ordered a Nootropic drug called pierecetam online.
If this doesn't work then I have no idea what's going to happen with my life, how will I ever hold down a job with a brain that just will not do it's job properly?
any advice would be very greatly apprecieted.
-Mark

Hi Mark!

Have you checked any ADHD sites/forums yet? There are some helpful ones out there...

How much are you online? More than 5 hours can cause depression or concentration/memory problems, there was a study.

Some people have found help through nutrition changes and exercise, or 'fidgeting' - there's even a book 'Fidget to Focus' (it's very short, can make you see things differently though!!)
You might also be lacking magnesium or some other minerals/vitamins..

Some people with ADD/ADHD are on meds... some are on benefits, or just do different jobs.. it may be also a question of finding a right job for you, or right job environment... (so there isn't overwhelm or underwhelm, for someone with ADD/ADHD a library could be 'boring'?)

There are 'ADD coaches' too, and tips how to get organized and get things done..

You could also maybe marry someone rich, or get some inheritance? :D

You're lucky to have had a job in library for 3 years!! Some people with ADD change jobs more quickly... If you don't like books, maybe it wasn't a right job for you? (I'd love to work in a library though, lol! It's not so easy to get a position in one where I live..) What would be some jobs that you'd find interesting?

Hello Mark,

Sorry to hear that. My memory to little play with me, i dont know why. I cant concentrate on stuff. Because my thoughts all the time switch to somewhere else and already my head overanalyze other stuff and even i dont started in order first things. I dont know how to focus on one thing:( And make me very sad, because i cant never like that way finish things in order. I see u are really despair about it and i will like to help u if i could. No ability form memories?Something like Multiple Sclerosis=(?? I hope not. Try google some advices about ADHD or read some good book, or find person who suffer exactly with the same, maybe will be helpful to you talk to someone who have it some experiences with that. Try maybe also find some group of people around your town in wich u can talk about the same problems! Good luck!

Okay, this is one of the ADD forums, you can look at others too: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Forums
Most people there are on meds though... You can still find some other good info, there's a sub-section for exercise and nutrition too... (I'm anti-meds mostly) If you google 'ADD nutrition' or 'add salicylates' you'll get some info that others may have found helpful.. There's also a book and a Youtube lecture called 'Is your child's brain starving?' (where they tell about possible causes and mineral/vitamin deficiencies)

This is a website of an ADD coach: Home - ADHD Coach | Productivity Coach | Organizing | Chronic Disorganization | Lotus Bridge | Ariane Benefit | Ariane - she's very cool, have never bought anything there (yet :)), just looked at the free stuff and her blog, some of it was really helpful too..

I don't know much about adhd, but feather and DespairSoul are right about online information... there is lots. There is also lots of tips about how to deal with adhd at work, which is something you seem to be worried about.

Also, if you never saw a doctor about this, maybe you should, maybe they would give you better medication that what you buy online, and also more concrete help. For job orientation, I am the worst person ever to give you advice about this, but I would say maybe try in more physical job or any outdoor job? That's the only thing I can think of for now.

:) Hi Mark

I had a student just like you, he was so likeable, the social life of the class, and very good with people, the leader of his group of friends. He just couldn't complete work.

The problem is not with you, but with a modern society containing 'round holes' that you can't fit in to.

In past societies, ADHD people would have played important roles

Have a think about what you are naturally good at and build a career around it

eg My student would have made a great security officer with his size and people skills and the constantly changing, outdoor work would have suited him well

If you have to study, demand that you get extra support from your college to get you through it

I have ADHD, too

there are some other ADHD folks on here

I don't have a lot of advice

but my fortune from the cookie at the chinese restaurant where I had dinner said:

Focus on your long-term goal.
Good things will soon happen.
it also said my lucky numbers are:

3 6 9 17 26 30

you can use them if you want

Allright dude this is way out of my league I don't have any Idea what it is like to have ADHD. But I want to help so I will try. Feathers had some good advice, but if I am getting the right vibe about who you are I am thinking that it may not have helped. With respect to Feathers (you know how much I love you Feathers!!) I am going to give you an alternative, to her way of thinking. Don't sit for hours trying to read stuff on the internet. Your mind is quick but doesn't have staying power. Some of the best fighters/athletes that I know are like that. Have you ever thought about martial arts and MMA fighting? Get physical. Work out everyday. If you are always bouncing off the wall, use that. Harness you constant energy and need to be stimulated. I am sorry I don't have much more than that. I just know that intense physical exertion sometimes makes me live in my body instead of my mind, and my body is a much more pleasant place to live. I hope that this might work for you. If it seems stupid to you I am sorry, like I said I really don't know anything about your problem.::(:
