Momentarily blacking out.

I'm a bit new to this forum and so a tad nervous to post here. I also hope its in the right place but I have a question.

Has anyone ever blacked out momentarily during an event that they are worried about?
To give an example I will give a personal experience.

Back in 2005 when I had to go up in stage in front of hundreds of people to collect a certificate for art, I walked up the stairs to the stage. The next thing I remember was taking a seat beside my mother with the certificate in my hand. I was utterly confused as the last I remembered was walking up those stairs. I asked my mother what happened and she explained the events. Apparently I walked upon the stage, over to the man who gave me my award and then to the second male who shook my hand and congratulated me. Apparently I then sorted my hair out nicer and posed for a picture with him. The photo was taken and I stepped down the steps and back to my mum, taking a seat which was when my memory returned.

I wondered if this or something similar has ever happened to other people who are terrified of a public event. I tried to search it up but was unsure how to explain or write what happened. Most of them were trying to state about alcohol causing the memory loss. But I have never drunk alcohol in my life.

Sorry about the length ^^;

It probably has nothing to do with your case, so I probably shouldn't even post it, but my moms ex-husband suffers from seizures & one type of seizure causes him to completely black out. He can even do things & then suddenly come out of it. Sort-of like sleepwalkers who do all kinds of things while sleepwalking & then remember nothing once they're awake. Especially since yours is anxiety induced it probably has nothing to do with that. But it could just be your minds way of protecting itself during an anxious situation.

Does this happen often with you? Or what it just the one time? It might be a good idea to go to a doctor and see what they have to say about it.

Ahh yes. It is a bit like sleep walking when I think of it. Except I'm awake, just not concious. It was very weird and as far as I know its only happened once. But that was also the only time in my life I had to be in front of so many people.

I know it wasn't a seizure, though my uncle used to have epileptic fits. I wnder if that is at all related to what I had.

Just the one time. It was very odd. Though I did have one experience that seemed out of body. I don't think thats related though.

yeah, the loss of memory is the most concerning, but I have had blackout due to anxiety but it's usually only for a few seconds and welcome to the forums:)

Yeah, it was long enough just for that event. Maybe a few minutes at most? I think it was my mind trying to protect me... but it really was odd. It's why I wondered if it happened to others.

so your mum was there the whole time, so that must mean that you never collapsed or anything cause she would of told you.

blackouts are common for people with epilepsy, (dont worry though you probably dont have epilepsy :) )
it may of just been stress and anxiety, but i would certainly go to your GP and ask what they think

Yeah she was. And a few of my friends who were also collecting awards.

Is it a bit late to ask the GP? I'm a tad worried they might think its silly to ask when it hasn't happened in five years. I'm just curious because if it happened once there's always a chance it might happen again.

no, it certainly isnt, thats what they get paid for, and if you dont like your GP you are intitled to see another one in the practice

the docs deal with hypochondriacs all the time, and you certainly arent one of them :)

Thanks =)
I think I might go and talk to him about it. He's very understanding and the one who pointed out to me that I had social phobia in the first place.

It truly does. I usually have a minor panic attack, so I focus on my ipod and try to watch episodes I downloaded from my favourite anime on it to calm down.

It's just the waiting that I hate. The guy himself is lovely and he's known me since I was a toddler.
