Hey peeps!

What is you opinion on this? I was told something by my mother (as crazy as she is!) and it kinda made sence to me.

Female theripsts/counsellors, they dive into your emotions and feelings and get wrapped up in them, where as males try to get the job done. What do you this of this?

All my past and present counsellors have been female, maybe its worth a shot with a male theripst.

Thanks in advance!

Hey
I have a female psychologist and a male therapist. I must say the man is much better! Maybe its because they have different jobs. I do CBT with my male therapist. with my female psychologist she basically just talks to me about the facts of social anxiety and about my medicine..
I have been getting alot better thanks to the CBT!

It mostly would come down to the individual rather than their gender, I find females easier to talk to and have done best with female therapists, but I like my male doctor

I find it easier to talk with women. I've never seen a therapist though.

I did have a male hypnotist and it didn't work for me.

hmm, I think it really depends mostly on the therapist and their 'specialization' or 'orientation'

There are A LOT of therapies out there, CBT focuses more on 'here and now': on thoughts and actions, feelings are just part of the package there, and some 'older' therapies like psychoanalysis (think: Freud!) or such go more into past history, etc. You can read a book on different therapies, or read online, and ask what options you have in regard to choosing a 'specialist' - if something like that exists wehre you live!!
In our country, it's really 'badly' functioning, the whole therapy field is widely not available to 'ordinary people' in many cases, only a few options are possible 'for free'.. Even professors for CBT (to teach therapists) come from another country, I've been told!!

I think it depends most if you 'click' with the person.. if you feel understood and/or challenged enough, depending on what you need.. (some people may need more understanding, some may need more 'push'.. some therapists and therapies may be better at 'understanding', listening, and some more at 'pushing' people.. usually, some sort of balance would probably be needed..)

Also, it may depend if you had issues with mom or with dad, in some cases then male or female might be better (because of the whole 'transference' thing..) For example if you've had issues with mum, maybe you would unconsciously see therapist as 'mum' and wouldn't want to cooperate? If that makes sense..
Or some people can also THINK they had issues with mum, when in reality the problem was with dad character (or lack of one).
