Over the years i have occasionally thought about exactly this - either writing a self-help book, forming a little "business" with a few others, etc. But i've never had enough consistent drive/motivation to do so (ie to set as goal, & attempt to do it). Also there's lack of faith (that it would fail & i'd lose money, time, etc). And a few other (not insurmountable) hurdles, like lack of knowledge/skills to do sth like this. But BIG ideas like these REALLY EXCITE ME!!! (i am a bit manic-biplar though! hehe).
I'm certainly not afraid of putting in the hours & hard effort (that's all i really do for most of each day anyway, on the computer).
I've found it's
almost impossible to start/do/accomplish sth major like this, on your own. I have attempted numerous projects, with the odd one losing $100's dollars of my own capital, others not gaining a single penny for my efforts, and the odd one earning a few $100's profit.
In things like this, i'm very much a doer (& thinker), otherwise (in most other ares of life) i'm just a thinker. And i'm kinda all-or-nothing - either we'd all get-the-ball-rolling RIGHT NOW, or else i might not be bothered with it.
This reminded me of a thread i saw recently, which i saved its link -->
Do you feel like you are meant to do something BIG with your life?
I can see many benefits for doing a project collaboratively...
• Each person can do what their best/good at (& can feel that they're needed, & that their skill/talent is being utilized productively)
• The (huge) workload is shared
• Like having a (good) job, it can be sth to "get up for" each day
• There is mutual support concerning the project, to keep it going, resolve any issues that arise, etc
• Since the members are only from this site (& i guess members who have good rep's?), the trust is there, which is VERY important in business
• There may be some income for the members (but i see that as a "fringe" benefit, and maybe shouldn't be the top prioirty?)
• Goal-striving, esp working on a "project", can make one feel "satisfied" & "good" (perhaps it is fulfilling a human need?)
• There is of course a fair amount human/social interaction, which is another human need fulfilled
• We can gain some of the same benefits of various social/business-networking sites (which most here would probably not bother with, for various reasons)
• Like work, it boosts one's self-esteem, as you are doing sth "worthwhile"
As to the HOW of getting sth like this "off the ground", i don't really know. I'll have my ideas on it, and others will have their own.
But i'll throw a few ideas in to start with...
• Corporation? Company? Business? Shares?
• Board of "directors"? (to settle on important decisions)
• Manager, leader, head?
• What project/s to do? Self-help book? Something else?
