Like... Jeez, how does someone with social anxiety even do these things?! I hope I do okay, how was your guys first job interview? Of course this ain't some huge corporate offering or whatever, this is just Wal-Mart, but I'm still a bit nervous.

Hah! I had an interview at wal-mart years ago. They put everyone together around a big table, turned on the camera (yes), talked about some stuff, then took us in private one after another for a small individual interview. They probably watched the tape afterwards to see how we were interacting with each others while waiting. Interesting experiment. I didn't get the job of course, I felt very hostile towards the interviewers during the entire process. I felt like the whole thing was ridiculous. Anyway good luck :p Just remember that failing is really not a big deal, it's just a wal-mart interview.

Sounds really weird, who did you talk to and what did you talk about?

i worked at walmart as a stocker right after high school. the interview was pretty quick and painless. they interview so many people, it's not that in depth. they expect and are used to people being nervous and/or inexperienced with interviews.

just go interview, even if you don't get it (though you most likely will) it's good practice. you need to learn how to interview, because later in life jobs you apply for will be much more competitive.

^Interviews send me into panic mode. It helps me to think of the bad things about the job, then I don't mind so much if I don't get it, therefore it takes the sharp edge off the worrying about what I will say etc.
Good luck, HeadFace.:)

^Wow, If I did not have SA, the fun I could have had in that situation! My devious self (which never gets let out) is thinking of all the things I would have done while they were out of the room with the camera rolling. :giggle:

None of it would have included the other people at the table though, I would never have ruined their chances.

And such is why we're friends on here :)

I don't really remember... During the part where everyone were around the table, I think they asked us to introduce ourselves (I hate that), then explained to us what the job was about, then asked if we had questions as a way to see who was speaking out. Haha

The individual interview was the usual pointless questions "why do you want to work here" (for money ??) "what can you bring to our team" "name one of your qualities"

The hardest part is if your department is really good at competitive banter and very outgoing...fitting in is not easy if you are mild mannered. Really hard. But you can still get on with the work and look for other jobs whilst you give it a try..

There are a lot of egos and narcissists in retail. It seems to be an industry for egos, chatty types. Survival of the fittest and all that stuff.

Ive seen countless nice, mild mannered, shy types come and go, i have survived by focussing on the work, being helpful, but understanding my limitations, however am looking for other jobs in the meantime.

It is good training though and will partly cure SA. Sort of.

I remember doing this years ago, I was nervous too. It turned out not to be that much in depth at all. It was pretty much a "are you breathing and do you have a pulse?" interview.

Stop worrying about it. Stop thinking about it. Focus on your breathing, take slow, long, deep breathes. Smile. You're alive, you're aware, you're conscious. Before you go in watch some comedy clips on Youtube and laugh. Listen to music right before you interview. Nothing really matters at all, trust me, NOTHING matters. You have lived on this earth thousands of times before, stop worrying about it. Enjoy the experience of the interview process, regardless of whether or not you are uncomfortable, just enjoy it and don't think about it.
