Had bad insomnia for years now have no idea how to overcome it:crying:

Things I have tried:

Sleeping pills (nytol)
Warm milk
Bath before bed in lavander oil
Sleep sounds (YouTube)
Weed mixed with alcohol (can't sleep then feel utter **** the next day)
Mitrazipine <sp?
Cutting out sugar and caffeine.
Codiene
Absolutely tireing myself out in the day.
Getting up early and sticking to routine.
Going to bed only when I feel tired.

I think I have got a serious problem. I get to bed, granted I feel tired like normal people but my body just will not relax. I have tried the breathing deep etc. I'm not sure what the problem is its like a mental block towards sleep. I'm finding it difficult to explain. I think another trip to the docs is in order. Cue the alkwardness and feeling like a weirdo. I hate it. Why can't I just be normal and relax and get a good sleep in.

I go to bed at 3am after taking Nyquil. I'm going to join a gym with a swimming pool tomorrow and begin swimming a few hours before bed. That should put my a** to sleep. I might have to have a snack as well but hopefully I can fall asleep before 1:00am. My goal is to fall asleep before 12:00am. But tonight, will be my usual routine.

Have you tried reading? LoL, that does it for me. Or perhaps try writing. Write down whatever you're thinking about. Even if it doesn't help you sleep, at least you'll have made constructive use of your insomnia.

When I was a teenager into my early 20's, it used to take me hours to fall asleep. Thinking too much. Now I'm a light sleeper. I need a fan running in order to block out ambient sounds, and the consistent hum is kind of soothing. I dunno if sleep sounds on YouTube are equivalent. But I guess anything's worth a shot.

Yup, been there, done that. Still doing some.

Have you tried white noise? There's an app for that and I am sure you can scour the 'net to find downloadables of 'white noise'

I've yet to try the white noise.

also I hear these are good ..and have tried:
Kava Kava root (has to be the real thing - check online
valerian root
passionflower extract
wild lettuce extract
magnesium
oh, melatonin - not so much
antihistamines (like the ones for motion sickness and nausea like promathezine) ... you can buy promethazine online - just google it.
Diphenhydrate which is NOT the same as diphenhydramine - my mom used to work at a hospital (graveyard shift) and she picked up the tip from nurses who took diphenhydrate when they got home to sleep.

I have insomnia - but it kind of runs in cycles with me. GABA also helps me, and if I keep enough stuff in stock, I rotate it so my body doesn't get used to one thing and not working.

Hope this makes sense.

Good luck!

I go to bed at 5-6AM My record was 8AM

I feel kind of tired at night, but not sleepy. I'm wide awake until I hit 5AM, when maybe I start feeling sleepy. I'm not taking anything. I just have a shower and just fool around until my body can't take it anymore.

I've tried exhausting myself with some sort of exercise but all it does is mess with my focus later. I feel tired, I can't concentrate on tasks at all because of that, but wide awake still. It's a crappy feeling.

I've recently been having troubles with insomnia. It's not so bad that I'm going days on end without sleep, but most of the time, I end up staying awake real late and not getting hardly any shut-eye. Just last night I literally got 0 hours of sleep before I had to get up at 8 in the morning to go to work.

Luckily there's naps. Sometimes they inhibit my ability to fall asleep at night, though, depending on how long they last. :s

My sleeping patterns change all the time. Right now I have hyposomnia, if I don't suffer from that I'd have insomnia. I've never really had a good nights sleep. My sleep is always broken. I'd rather have insomnia rather than hyposomnia, as I get more done.
