I'm good with names and numbers, I never forget a phone number or a birthday or even weird things like how tall an actor or athlete is.
A good trick, kind of like Endymion was getting at, for remembering people's names is repeating it to their face when you're introduced.
Example:
"Jake, this is Ben."
"Ben, nice to meet you, Ben."
It kind of forces your mind to change gears and save the name in your memory.
They say it's evolutionary. We apparently have a hard time remembering names when we first meet people because our brains are too concerned with determining whether or not the person is a threat to us. Little things like what to call them and whatnot get lost amid the pesky desire to survive.![]()
I forget people's names but I'm pretty good at playing it off. For example: if someone gives me their number and I have to enter it into my phone, I just ask them how their name is spelled. One name can have different spellings so it's a convenient way to play off the fact that you didn't remember someone's name.::
Ah, that's a good trick! Would suck if it was someone with a really simple/obvious name though...
"How do you spell your name again"
"...B-O-B..."
Ahah. A classmate of mine had the last name "Fouckhardt".My friend had a classmate who's name was Asshole. I shit you not! It's supposed to be pronounced Ash-olee. I knew someone by the name Latrina. I don't think her parents realized how similar the name is to "latrine"
