If you ask people online what their IQ is, you will get results inflated to an extent that invalidates the data. This is doubly true of people with social problems.

Not necessarily always... if you're feeling down, it's easy to feel dumb. But I'm sure I can best a chicken in an IQ test! *Gasp*... well on my good days anyway ahaha

On two of the yes or no questions, I entered yes, but the survey rejected my response with these admonitions:

"Please enter a number. If you don't agree, enter zero."

"Please enter a number. If this hasn't happened to you, enter zero."

so I entered the numbers 47 and 32

Not everyone will be dishonest, no. A lot of people will though. Some will flat-out lie. Many will give numbers from sketchy online tests designed to elevate results to draw people in to something they want them to pay for. Other will exaggerate the numbers 'just a little to make it fair because they were nervous that day'. The list goes on, more than enough to skew the results to an unreliable degree.

Your average person will tell you that they have a higher than average IQ...this is not very likely to be true, of course. I personally have known only a handful of people who had an above average IQ.

I haven't taken this test. Why not? What is the average IQ? So I can aim to be lower. Not wise this one is.

this is what the psychologist and psychiatrist told me

That depends. Averages in IQ vary from country to country.

Oh. I knew that. Well, I sort of knew that without knowing it. If that makes sense. Intellamajent question: what is IQ? I mean I know, I think it is Intelligent Quotionent <-- however you spell it. Why does it exist? Who is to say this gentleman, who cannot read, isn't intelligent? Who is to say this lady who is not good with math isn't intelligent? Intelligence should be what one believes it to be. Not what is perceived or spoken.

I have no idea. My apologies. I have my tinfoil thinking cap on today.

Dang... it's the loch ness monster thing again lol. Ah.. so the mystery seems to be solved. It's just your silly willy taking a swim, no?

Anyway, I actually believe you if you say you've got IQ 140. IQ tests has a pretty huge topic on visual intelligence usually. That's the part I usually am really not good at.

To sort out the smart from the dumb?

Who is to say this gentleman, who cannot read, isn't intelligent? Who is to say this lady who is not good with math isn't intelligent?

Someone who is illiterate can be highly intelligent and could excel at mathematics and someone who doesn't excel at math could very well excel in other areas. However, I believe that IQ tests are mostly math-based.

Intelligence should be what one believes it to be. Not what is perceived or spoken.

Aren't belief and perception pretty much the same thing?

I have no idea. My apologies. I have my tinfoil thinking cap on today.

I love how a conversation about IQ has shifted to a conversation about penile measurments. :D

My thesis is that with coyote's presence, all roads lead there eventually... it's only a matter of time... But on topic, I remembered somewhere that the IQ tests were created by a european guy. French I think. Supposed to create equal opportunities for everyone, especially students since it's based on the intellect and not social status and class.

Then in world war 2 (or was it 1), it's also used in some way, can't recall much. In general, I'm pretty much in favor of Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence.. but also taking into account the crystallized intelligence vs fluid intelligence thing.

I don't understand how this could create equal opportunity since not everyone is equal in intellect.

Now I'm curious. This is the next thing I'm going to Google.
