I’ve had a pretty bad year in a lot of ways & have been feeling crappy, so I was trying to think of some good things. I’ve done some things this year that I’ve never done before. I figure others have probably done things for the first time in 2009, too. If so, you can post them here, regardless how small.
My firsts of 2009 are (the ones I can think of):
* I had my very first (& only) job interview in or around August
* I called the manager of a job I had put an application into & asked if they had reviewed my application yet (not my idea-- my vocational specialists)
* A month or two ago I walked across a very long bridge in my town that I’ve always been afraid of. Partially because I’m terrified of heights & partially because I’m terrified of bridges in general. It was either that or wait an hour & a half for the bus & standing around was making me even more anxious than I already was.
* I went to college (just remembered that lol).
* I walked home in the dark by myself at 11:30pm at least five times (not safe, I know, but I had to)
* I paid full price for a hard cover book at a store (I never do that-- I usually buy things used on half.ebay.com). It was Kim Harrison’s "White Witch, Black Curse," btw, & well worth the money.
* I emailed a bunch of professors for various reasons.
* I watched every episode of "Battlestar Galactica" in succession to one another.
* I went to a nursing home
* I told some people about my SA (in real life)
* I asked questions to a guy at Pet Smart about mice lol
* I invited people as "friends" to various sites/profiles. I’ve always been too afraid to do that.
* I’ve started topics on forums, etc. though it scares me every time I do
* I went to a section 8 meeting by myself a few months ago (they help low income people pay their rent). Normally, they make my mom come but her health was so bad her caseworker said I could come on my own (that’s the same day I walked across the bridge-- after the appt. I didn’t want to stand around all that time, so I just walked)
A lot of that’s totally random because I was just typing it out as it came into my head. I’m sure there’s a lot I’m forgetting & it’s mostly trivial (like most of that was), but still:
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a small step."

Here’s that bridge. It still scares me since I’m terrified of heights, even though I walked across it in bad weather & survived:
