Firsts in 2009 ??

I’ve had a pretty bad year in a lot of ways & have been feeling crappy, so I was trying to think of some good things. I’ve done some things this year that I’ve never done before. I figure others have probably done things for the first time in 2009, too. If so, you can post them here, regardless how small.

My firsts of 2009 are (the ones I can think of):

* I had my very first (& only) job interview in or around August
* I called the manager of a job I had put an application into & asked if they had reviewed my application yet (not my idea-- my vocational specialists)
* A month or two ago I walked across a very long bridge in my town that I’ve always been afraid of. Partially because I’m terrified of heights & partially because I’m terrified of bridges in general. It was either that or wait an hour & a half for the bus & standing around was making me even more anxious than I already was.
* I went to college (just remembered that lol).
* I walked home in the dark by myself at 11:30pm at least five times (not safe, I know, but I had to)
* I paid full price for a hard cover book at a store (I never do that-- I usually buy things used on half.ebay.com). It was Kim Harrison’s "White Witch, Black Curse," btw, & well worth the money.
* I emailed a bunch of professors for various reasons.
* I watched every episode of "Battlestar Galactica" in succession to one another.
* I went to a nursing home
* I told some people about my SA (in real life)
* I asked questions to a guy at Pet Smart about mice lol
* I invited people as "friends" to various sites/profiles. I’ve always been too afraid to do that.
* I’ve started topics on forums, etc. though it scares me every time I do
* I went to a section 8 meeting by myself a few months ago (they help low income people pay their rent). Normally, they make my mom come but her health was so bad her caseworker said I could come on my own (that’s the same day I walked across the bridge-- after the appt. I didn’t want to stand around all that time, so I just walked)

A lot of that’s totally random because I was just typing it out as it came into my head. I’m sure there’s a lot I’m forgetting & it’s mostly trivial (like most of that was), but still:

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a small step."

_ Lao Tzu (founder of Taoism) (570-490 BC)

Here’s that bridge. It still scares me since I’m terrified of heights, even though I walked across it in bad weather & survived:

That's great. I also have the habit of writing down the significant first-time experiences. they're sort of scattered all over my journal so it's not very handy for me to compile a list from. Some of the biggest things I've done in 2009 includes making a true friend for the first time, and confronting someone and making him apologize for acting like a jerk for the first time.

But yea it looks like you've accomplished a lot of things. And you should be proud of yourself. 'cause you know if you keep doing something you're scared of everyday you will go far in life. SO keep up the good work

Hmmm, firsts.

- First time I performed a song in front of a group. I actually was with a friend and it was only instrumental because I didn't want to sing. I felt that would be too much for a first time. Plus the group was only about 10 or so people, but still. That was a big deal for me.

- First time volunteering somewhere (SPCA)

- First time staying up for like 26 hours straight

That's really all I can think of off the top of my head. There's some negatives, but I think this thread is supposed to stay positive. Keep it up, everyone! :)

Fantastic, everyone !:)

Well, my achievements are small::eek:: but big for me.

It's kind of on the late side but I finally have my driver’s license even though, I am still scared to death about being on the roads.

First time I have taken a tabs test.

The only thing I consider significant that I have done is join SPW. However in 2010 I am planning to visit my sister and her family in the states by myself.. just the thought of travelling overseas is bad enough but imagine being in the presence of ppl that you have never met and trying to act normal is going to kill me.

In 2007:
- started uni
- made online friends
- made real life friends
- lived away from home for the first time
- passed my driving test
- went clubbing for the first time
- had my first kiss
- saved a lot of money

In 2008:
- went abroad for the first time
- first music festival
- Drove on a motorway for the first time
- Moved to a different flat

In comparison to those 2 years, 2009 has been a big disappointment for me ::(: Haven't done anything significant in the last 12 months...
