Fear of the Phone

I get really anxious when the phone rings, if someone else is home, I let them answer it, hoping it’s not for me. When I am alone in the house I ignore it, same goes for people knocking at the door.

Heh....yeah me too. I haven't charged my cellphone in a month because I'm scared of it. I'm also really scared of listening to voice messages for some reason....I always think that its going to be someone yelling at me.

I created a new term 'Techno-Socio-Phobia' which is social phobia related to use of technology for social interaction. The thread is on page 2 lol.

I never answer the phone or call anyone and I think it is the worst invention ever made. When it rings it just sets me off............NEVER call me, please.

The sad part about it is most of the time it is just an annoying sales call. People you do not have to face and talk to again. It should almost be easy for us, kind of a practice time, pretend to be someone else.

I don't have caller ID ::(: It's so stressful answering the phone when I don't know who it is - I often just ignore it!!

Does caller id really help you? I do not answer the phone even if I know who's calling!
With caller id or not, it is hard for me anyway. But I do feel comfortable with sms!! Who knows why...

My parents get mad at me for not picking up the phone when I'm near it or when they're unavailable to pick it up. The phone is in the kitchen so I tend to avoid that place or when I eat there, I try to finish ASAP, in case it rings, lol.

I don't care much for those sales calls though. I would just hang up and I can just tell my parents that it was one of those stupid calls but when a friend of my parents call, I get anxious about saying who called and what for, etc.. My parents also expect me to ask them why they called if they didn't state their purpose so I have no excuse not to know why they called.

When my parents are out I HAVE to pick up the phone because they would find out if I didn't so I just pray that nobody will call...

I just get more stressed not knowing who it is and what to expect - if I knew it was someone I didn't feel up to speaking to I could ignore it, but without caller ID I have to just risk it sometimes  Texting worries me too, sometimes I just can't think of what to say in a reply!

Like we can ignore it! I have a cousin from whom I get about 20 calls a day. All missed in purpose. He just doesnt get it.. I need some time alone. But he keeps calling and calling hoping that i could join his friends and him at a party or sth. Like I could go to one!!! So I allways end up at home with many many missed calls on my cell. Textin only makes me feel safer because while writting, I have more time to make up excuses for not going out :)
