TRY IT! lol.
I did it on my sister, and she was completely convinced I was staring directly at her eyes.
I also used it on a lady worker at Home Depot earlier today and I was actually able to maintain a conversation (granted home improvement related) without feeling too nervous. I think I also exuded a sense of confidence that made it easy to talk to me.
Overall, I think this is one of those tricks that should be in any social phobes tool box. It works best when you initiate the conversation by directly looking at the ears. Don't move your eyes back and forth too much. But even if you do, your eyes will simply look like they're refocusing. People will still believe you are maintaining direct eye contact! Fool proof trick imo.
