Doing Time in the Slammer

What do you do to alleviate the boredom? When you have the whole day ahead of you, alone, kind of trapped in your own mind, what keeps you from losing it? I have spent the past two months visiting the same websites, listening to meaningful music (Why does it always rain on me, lol) daydreaming that I am someone else, procrastinating over unread books and unfinished stories(My writings gone downhill with my memory, I can’t face it) The amount of time I spend doing nothing is amazing, I could have learned another language.

I think you should learn meditation and read up on Buddhist teachings. 2 days ago, I began to read up on self-hypnosis (self-trance). Very fascinating.

Yeah, that’s a good idea. Problem with me thought is I never see anything through. You should see how many self-help audio books I have.

I work full time but in my spare time i do my hobbies; Playing my guitar, weight training, shooting my gun, watching tv, surfing the net. Even though i do have hobbies i still get extremely bored mainly because i desire companionship. Life seems meaningless when i have no companion.

Never forget that you have a family here :D

You could try weight training like recluse said. It's pretty cool to watch your body transform and getting into shape adds a new kind of confidence. It takes a lot of time and effort, but once you get past the initial weight coming off and can start focusing on making your body look really good it is pretty fun. Plus it is something to focus on, for me when I don't have anything to focus on it makes me depressed. When i am dedicated to working out 5-6 times a week and train hard I tend to think about it a lot and what I'm going to do next and this makes me think about other things rather than the same never ending thoughts that fill my mind. Spending time and energy on something to improve yourself can't be a bad thing.

I've been reading up on the principles of traditional chinese medicine.
It sounds like something that could end up being beneficial to understand and it's interesting too.

Just internet or TV, and I sleep most of the day too.

Something that really annoys me is that I struggle maintain an interest in things and I can't put the effort in, there's just no motivation there. I think it's as a result of depression, I really feel I would be a lot happier if I was able to have a hobby, skill or genuine interest.

Yes I've also been losing interest in many of the things I once enjoyed, like cycling, swimming, reading, etc. Don't know why too. Maybe my depression is getting worse...

Two months back I was getting plenty of exercise, I biked to work every day, come rain or shine. My job was physical and demanding. At home, I have an assortment of exercise equipment that I’ve not used since I’ve worked. I cannot bring myself to do exercise, or do anything. Why bother when you can’t see a bright future.

I have the attitude of ''why bother'' most days, i sometimes wonder what the hell the point is to do anything. I mean people excercise mainly to look good but when there's no one to see me i wonder whether there is any point.

I used to be an avid cyclist and did some racing from the age of 15 then i started to get depressed and i gradually did it less. Now i haven't been on my bike for years but i still do the weight training.

My bike is rusting away in the shed because the derailleur snapped. I will not take it back to the shop for repairs because I have to talk to people.
