Does the following make me an amoral perosn?

Hey. I'm a university student who generally gets straight As. However, I've been so busy with things that I've barly studied for my 2 upcoming midterms, and haven't started an assignment that's due on Friday. My father's bestfriend died of brain cancer, and while he was dying (over the weekend) I had to think about dying for a long time, while worrying about my Father and trying to help him out. So, I asked my teacher if I could hand in my assignment the following week, essencially using this death as an excuse.

It only matters if you feel like you have cheated the system in some way. Certainly death is a good excuse, but no-one but yourself knows how close you were to this person that died. The best thing to do is work your butt off, and hand it in as early as possible even though you do have an extention.

On a sidenote, when a good friend of mine died rather unexpectedly during one evening, I still went to work a couple of hours later for the night shift.

No. It does not make you amoral. An amoral person would not bother to ask whether they were justified or not. They would already know they were unjustified and not care.

Nope... sounds pretty legitimate to me. Your dad may be feeling distraught so you were helping him out or worrying about him. I DO know of people who regularly cheat the system outright and this is certainly not it.
