Do you think that technology is a huge contribute to s.a?

I think it is because the more technology gets better, the less people have to leave there homes or "safe places" I know I myself think that my job is a huge factor of why my recovery is a slow process not dealing with many people and staring at a screen all day can't be healthy!

Yes.

Don't have time to post now but I've been discussing this with my therapist for a few days.

I'll be back!

I think it is too. The internet is like my second home. I spend more hours here than I do outside my home. I spend up to 8 hours on the computer and that's definitely not healthy, but I honestly have nothing better to do with myself. Most of my friends either moved out of state for college, are out of town for the summer, or are just busy as usual. Going out by myself is the worst thing I could do to myself in regards to my SA and thus I don't know how to make better use of my time and don't know what to do once I actually decide to leave the house.

yep I'm the same I don't like being out by myself for too long so id rather just stay home where I feel comfortable and at ease, and what is there to do at home lol either tv, play station or the INTERNET hahaha, although when my bf is back I am alot more outgoing and I do stuff with him but yeah when hes at work I become a hermit again unless I'm bored to the point where I need to get out but it's always the same routine I feel so constricted by my own mind it's quite disgusting

I'm not sure. I would probably avoid people just as much even if I didn't have a laptop.

Yes, definitely! In particular, the internet. Used to be you had to talk to people to socialize, to work, to get information, everything. Now you can literally do all those things without ever speaking to another human in person if you wanted.

I can and will spend an hour researching something on the internet to avoid making a 30 second phone call to find the same info.

I’d say no because I had sp before I was exposed to computers and when the internet initially came on I hated it but I am a computer person and spend a lot of time on there. I’m doing an online course at the moment and I have 100 emails in my inbox with students that are doing online studies wanting to meet up and have study buddies. So I think if you’re going to get social phobia it’s unavoidable if you’re prone to it.

I should clarify. I don't think the Internet/Technology causes SA, but it's too easy for those of us with SA to use it as a crutch so we're never forced to confront our SA. And also to use it to distract ourselves from the SA (for yeaaaaars until we realize we're almost 40 and still trapped with SA and where did the time go. yes, my issues are showing here. :)).
