Awkward potential work situation-Need Advice!!

Third update: It's been two days since he called and left a message and I called back and left a message. I didn't call again yesterday, because I expected to hear from him. Should I try calling again today? He left two numbers, and called from a third, so I'm not sure which one to call. I think one is his cell phone, so I'd hate to call him on it if it's his day off or he's not at work for some reason. I don't think I should wait too much longer to try to contact him, but I also kinda feel like it's his turn in this game of phone tag...
Advice?

call all numbers. take no prisoners. this is what you have WANTED for so long. go after it by any means necessary. if you inconvenience someone on their day off for 30 seconds: so what? GET WHAT YOU WANT. only you can make this happen.

I'm freaking out, but I'm about to call. Part of me hopes (as I usually do with phone calls) that he doesn't answer and I'll be forced to leave a message...
Calling back is one of the few things on my to-do list for the day that I haven't done, so I really don't have an excuse not to.

Good luck! I've been following this thread, and am so hoping you get this. That would just be so cool. :) *fingers crossed*
Even if you don't, you had the courage to try. Think how much worse you'd feel had you just sat idly & watched it pass you by.

Forth update: I got another message today. They filled the position (with someone who had volunteered there--I wanted to volunteer at the library years ago, but my husband at the time said, "volunteering is not a job"), but will have a couple more openings soon that they'd like to consider me for. I'm pretty excited and flattered. He was very encouraging on the message. :)

Maybe I just don't understand the job position, but a Master's? That seems unnecessary.

A Master's degree is not required for the page position I applied for (I've been told by a friend who worked as a page that it's the lowest position on the totem pole). However, every actual librarian job I've ever seen has required a Master of Library Science.

Fifth update (man, this is getting to be kinda long...): I got a call from somebody else in the library system for page positions at 3 other libraries and have an interview scheduled for next Wednesday. I'm less nervous than I was the first time. :D
This job isn't even on their website as having openings, so I'm guessing they're going through the applications they already have. I take it as a good sign.

Odd, replying to two of your posts in one evening...
But, that is very encouraging. Hey, maybe you'll land the position in an ever nicer library!
Really gives me some hope for my job search that has yet to begin. Good luck!

I'm a guy who has worked in blue collar, building, electrical etc. and IT in an office so i guess i'm fairly adaptable, but i think a librarian would be a brilliant career. Personally. The only thing that has stopped me is that its not a very "macho" career, or its looked at that way, which shows that i'm weak towards what others think. But i think its important to remember that everyone is different and lots of people like certain things for whatever reason. I read books and would really enjoy the peacefulness of the environment.

Working in IT gauranteed that i came home with a headache, because there were so many issues, variables to deal with which i would take personally all the time (big problem), in a big office where you could see everyone else.

I need to be able to work hard but in a peaceful not too busy surrounding.

Just got back from interview for other locations. One of the interviewers was there the first time. I don't know if she remembered me. There were 2 other girls with interviews at the same time as me, so we took turns (don't know if this is good or bad). Again, somebody asked me for help while I was doing a shelving exercise. This time, I sought someone out to help her (I kinda wonder if this is a test for interviewees...or if I just really look like I belong working there).
Glad it's over. Nervous.
Off to class!

It never hurts to go and try. I say give it a shot.

I tend to think about what other people will do or say regarding me and what I've done wrong, but usually they are much more focused on themselves and whatever they are doing. I think it's better to focus on whether or not the place will work for you and what you want. It's easy to overlook your own needs and desires when you are busy thinking about what other people are going to do.

Best of luck!

Today, one of the three interviewers called my current job. I happened to be the only one there, and she said, "I interviewed you yesterday." It was a little weird. Anyway, she said she'd call back and talk to my manager this afternoon. After the call, my manager told me that she said good things about me. :)

I got the job!! I'll be working at a library in the city where my bf lives (it's about 20 minutes from my house, so not the closest one, but that's fine. :))
I start July 9. I'm very excited!!

Ugh...I was so excited about this and now it's being delayed! Grr...yesterday, I went to fill out paperwork. I was told it would be from 3:30-4:15. I emailed my instructor stating that I'd be late for class (it starts at 4:10). I showed up at 3:30, only to find out I was supposed to receive a letter telling me to be there 4:30-8:30. They told me to just take the paperwork home and bring it back today for the second part of the orientation. I just received a call from the librarian at the library where I'm supposed to work, and she said to not come to the orientation tonight, since I missed the one last night. I'll have to wait until August to start. I didn't get the letter because somebody made a mistake on my address and put "street" instead of "terrace." I feel like I'm being punished for someone else's mistake.
Had I known in advance the correct time, maybe I could've made arrangements for my class, but I have a test tomorrow and I would prefer not to miss any class. By 3:30, it was too late to try to contact the instructor.

And, since the librarian left a message, I need to call her back. She sounded a little irritated about the situation. I hope she doesn't blame me. I hate calling people back.::(:
