Are you a child or grandchild of an alcoholic?

Great thread!

My grandpa was an alcoholic (Grandma said, I didn't know it or think about it that way at the time), some other relatives too (like two uncles and mum's cousin etc... one uncle is totally sober now, has been for years, one takes pills that make him sick if he drinks so he mostly stays away from it too, one went into treatment and seems to be doing well and sober as far as we know too) so I try to stay away from the stuff or anything iffy too!! (maybe just drink half a glass of wine occasionally for a toast for birthday or at events or such, I did have years of not drinking at all even at parties!!)

I might have an 'addictive personality' too so I try to stay away from these things even more!! :)

Both a child and grandchild of alcoholics-- drug addicts as well.
Am not an addictive personality but have chosen to stay far away from drugs/alcohol/smoking in part for this reason. (family history of addiction)

Oh man, my family is littered with substance abuse. (Not quite sure how I dodged that particular bullet, to be honest.)

Still, I know more recovering alcoholics than non-recovering alcoholics.

My father has been an alcoholic since I was a toddler, which was when my parents seperated. I lived with him (just me and him) for a few years and it was the worst time of my life.
