Terrified of driving

I'm learning to drive right now. But biking on the streets is nearly the same. But your responsibilties will raise. I love to drive so the anxiety calms down.

lol me too :p
I hate how rude people are when you actually adept your speed to the limit, even though they can clearly see you're learning to drive.

I'm learning to drive at the moment and am so glad to read that being a nervous driver is normal for a social phobia sufferer.

I'm learning in an automatic, far less stressful than the manual. :)

I don't know how it's with you, but when you get your license for an automatic, you need to redo your exam when you wanna drive with a manual. Manual is not so hard to learn, and it's fun too. Especially with a 300ZX.:D:D

If people are rude to me for driving at the speed limit (when Im not in a hurry I do it... why would I want to go faster and risk crashing?) I flick them off... and then say hello to them when I catch up to them at the red light. I love it, they're like "wtf?" :D

Wow, so many responses. Thank you guys, coming on here always makes me feel better. I'm so glad I have this outlet. It's great being able to talk to so many people around the world that can relate and give you advice. I'd go crazy without it! Well.. crazier.

I haven't gone back to take the test yet, but I've been studying. I'm less worried about the test, and more worried about driving after I pass the test. Still terrified, but I have no choice. I'm so worried about my ADD.

I was certainly terrified of the driving tests. Took me three attempts to get my licence. I didn't have social anxiety back then.

yeh perhaps only drive an automatic car, which is very-very easy to do, i mean really easy. it'll probably take you 1-2 drives before you lose your fear of driving in public as well ..

manuals can take alot longer and it is a bit more daunting in learning in a manual. but if you start in a an automatic it may motivate you to try a manual some day.

I dont have a drivers license and I am 27.

But they are also extremely expensive in Denmark where I come from. You should expect to pay between 2000-2500 USD, And a car can easily cost you between 500 and 1000 USD pr month, for the loan, inssurrance, gas etc so quite expensive I think

I got my Learners Permit when I was 16 1/2, the earliest age I could get my LP. After I got it, I started practising. This was very scary for me. I had trouble getting the clutch right. I woud normally let it out too quickly. I would find the quietest roads when I was with my dad. Didn't have this option with the driving instructor, but at least he would have his own controls. I so wanted to avoid driving as much as I could, but then getting my license was also very important for me.

Test drove a couple of manuals when I was looking for a car (before I got my full license), and ended up buying a automatic because I didn't feel comfortable with a manual. I passed my test on the second attempt, a few months after my 17th birthday.

In those days I would have been terrified of city traffic, because all my driving had been in the country. Now driving with lots of cars around is almost second nature, and I am totally comfortable with almost whatever situation I am faced with.

When I first started to learn how to drive (it wasn't in Canada), I was TERRIFIED in every sense of the word.

I was sweating A LOT and very nervous...when I first got on the road, I couldn't breath properly!

That was LAST YEAR. Today, I like to think I'm an expert driver. I passed my test with a standard the first time....I LOVE DRIVING!
