Processed food increasing anxiety and depression: Articles

^^ They would be more likely to be worse off if they had an unhealthy one full of processed junk.

It should of course be remembered with this sort of thing (well, actually, with many things) it's not usually an On / Off scenario. There are always many factors at play, meaning that processed food is more likely to aggravate conditions in some people, but will have little effect in others. Overall, you're probably best off avoiding it (or at least minimising it) however, for many reasons.

What about people who have a healthy diet?

You may think you have a healthy diet but there is food that you keep eating that your body cannot tolerate (gluten, dairies) but you don't know it because the effect is not as obvious than with allergies. There is also the fact that "healthy diet" is a relative expression - actually most of the processed food sold in the stores could be considered as unhealthy at a certain degree - and if your digestive system is already damaged, it will cause you trouble.

And to add to what starry said, the healthy diet is not the only factor that will help people stay away from depression and lower the anxiety level, it is just a very important one. If I only eat healthy but I don't go outside and do sports (exactly what I'm doing lately), it's not going to end well.

Yes, very true, chocolate and sugar in specific can be very bad for people who suffer from fatigue induced depression and who have weak adrenal glands.... other than that having normal sleep patterns can also be very effective in improving one's mood.

My doctor kindly reminded me of the importance of eating a healthy diet with anxiety, depression, etc. We got into quite a long conversation which lead to why is 'gluten intolerance on the rise' and 'what's going on with women/hormones and being so unbalanced these days'....it was a good convo!

I tend to eat healthy regardless but there are the occasional times I like my sweets or junk food, but I think as with virtually everything, moderation, moderation, moderation is the key.

or as Henry David Thoreau said, "simplify, simplify, simplify"

*Side note: I used to eat frozen peas, beans and corn and pick fresh berries from my neighbor's garden when I was little. I grew up eating raw spinach, liking vegetables and fresh fruit because they were always around to eat. Amazing how things change...or is it that I am a very odd person?*
