minus the tacky stencil. this has a slightly more warm tone.

i am omitting the names of these two specific paints to further avoid outside bias. haha

Is this for a bedroom? Pulling these colors up on a blank white page is easier viewing, I think the blue of the forum throws them off a bit. Anyway, that being said, I think the second one looks more neutral, or maybe it's just my monitor. Either way, I choose number 2. :)

i've got the paint chips from home depot which helps. the third color i like is cobblestone from martha stewart:

but like bluedays says, lighter colors tend to open the room up so i'm scurred to go that dark. my place is very small. but the more i look at that picture. ugh! decisions!

Maybe it's because I'm a male, but those colours totally look the same to me. ::p:

I like all three colors, but I vote for color #1. It appears to have a warmer tone and light would likely bounce off of it a little better. I have a very similar color in my house! :)

Option 2 is slightly warmer looking... So if I had to pick I'd go for that... But of all three that you've shown the third one is best because it's the least bland... Personally speaking, I hate being in rooms which are those sorts of colours... I like to have colour in my life lol... I don't care about rooms looking "brighter and bigger", I want them to reflect who I am...

Out of these to colours I like the first one more (for the same reasons as BlueDays).

But let me go a bit off topic and make a suggestion... When I fought my problems by myself (SAD, agoraphobia, depression, insomnia- then I couldn't name them but I knew something was wrong with me) I used some unconventional methods - chromatherapy and aromatheraphy (still doing it). I couldn't afford for a specialist or anything like that. But I started with painting my room from a dark undefinable colour to a light yellow and blue and chose some suitable accessories also in light, suitable colours.
I don't want to deviate to much.. but just wanted to say it worked for me. It helped me fight the depression (I don't say this thing alone, but definitely helped to rise my spirit), helped me to learn to be optimistic (or maybe just get it out of me), sleep better and much more.

I think such dark colours as the second one may be a bit depressing, it make a room look cramped and cause a feeling of being closed and isolated. To personalise the room you always may choose suitable accessories.

So finally I just wanted to ask if you are sure you want your room to be that neutral and you don't want to have any more cheerful colour (I'm not saying orange or yellow cause these really may be too bright, but maybe blue or green). Whether it is your bedroom or living room you're gonna spend plenty of time there, and believe me or not the surrounding has a huge impact on one's mood. It's just my humble opinion. ;)

So what do you think of this? hope I didn't make you even more indecisive.

thanks for the suggestion, misslilyc! i get what you're saying, but as a renter i can't really experiment with color.

oh.. that's a pity.. but are you sure? maybe it's enough to ask? don't take anything for granted ;)

I've also thought I cant negotiate with my landlady but she turned out to be quite open-minded.

Anyway, whatever you'll decide, good luck! and please share the results. I love admiring finely decorated flats and houses.

^ I totally get what you're saying, I found that really works for me too. When I redid my brother's room two years ago, I wanted a color that I really liked and that made me feel better. I settled on a light lime green color, similar to this (although my color is a bit deeper):

I find it to be very calming for me. :)

One of the benefits of having neutral colored walls is that you can accessorize with lots of different colors to give the room some "pop". The tan color on my walls looks really good with reds, greens, and browns. It's easy to change the look of the room for the different seasons by just changing pillows, rugs, throws, or other accessories!

My most interesting painting experience was convincing a woman that we could paint her bedroom when she was flat broke and could not afford to buy new paint. She had half a gallon of green paint and different cans of white paint - all latex and enough primer to cover the ghastly dark blue walls. It was a long narrow room, so we started at the far end and painted it green, the opposite wall ( the door and the closet ) we added white paint to the green and painted it medium green and the side walls were done in light green. All the trim was done with the white paint with a touch of green. We used every drop of that green paint.
It changed the entire look of room with the darker walls appearing closer and the lighter walls farther apart. You might think a room with 4 different shades of green would look strange but it really looked amazing. Necessity is the mother of invention.

you should paint it blue - like the color of this website

that'll bring out the color in my eyes

I can't help myself - the amateur decorator in me must speak!
Martha sure loves those pickled floors ... The french doors should have been painted the same colour as the walls ( notice that they open into the room ) and the baseboard molding also should be the cobblestone. The window trim is fine.
Color 2 - the woman on the ladder should not be wearing socks and is sitting with her centre of gravity way over from the middle. It is an accident waiting to happen.
Color 1 - looks like a matte finish used - eggshell would probably be more receptive to the lighting. When I see those edges on glasstop tables, I cringe.
Whew, that felt good...
