Nice teeth

Does anyone else feel inadequate around people with perfectly white/strait teeth?
I don't have bad teeth, but they are not perfectly strait, and they are pretty white...but not bleach white.
Anyway I feel like guys with perfect teeth wouldn't date me b/c they are out of my league.
At the same time I wouldn't date someone who had really yellow teeth.
Not sure if I have a teeth fetish or if a lot of people feel this way.
I also hate to smile b/c of my teeth, saving up for braces but they are ****ing $6,000!!!!!!

It's not that people with nice teeth make me self-conscious, but I'm not happy with my teeth. They're stained from drinking too much tea, and I think I'm getting acid erosion too cause they're getting clear around the edges.::(: The other day, my brother said to me, "You need to stop drinking tea. I can see right through your teeth." That was insulting but it's true. I'd hate to give up tea. It's my comfort food (well, in liquid form) and I need the heat. Caffeine is nice too. And I don't have much choice in the way of toothpaste because I hate mint. I don't dare try any of those enamel-protecting toothpastes. Whitening strips kinda freak me out too cause I'm afraid they'll taste bad or be too abrasive on my worn down teeth. I imagine my bad teeth wouldn't be too pleasant if anyone were to kiss me but that's a non-issue at the moment anyway.

Me too, and then everyone tells you to smile more, which only makes it harder.

i'd like my teeth perfect white like them, but you've got to remember, they've probably just got it whitened at the dentist.

The thing is, hardly anyone has perfect teeth.

If i was going out with someone, there teeth wouldn't bother me. Unless they didn't have any.

What helped for me was brushing my teeth after every meal. Also, use a "high-end" toothpaste with whitening crystals or whatever they're called; regular won't make your teeth whiter.

I don't. I have good teeth (But I'm self concious about other things), but I would love to have them a little whiter.
Does whitening really work?

Whitening works but there are limitations, eg: if teeth has say more of a greyish tone to it, no amount of whitening would make them really white, I guess in this case only veneers would work to give a Hollywood set of whites, but veneers are really expensive though, much more so than whitening. I considered whitening some time back, but decided against it as my teeth has more of a yellowish tone to it naturally even though I don't drink coffee. The whitening treatment thus won't work well on me. In anyway, I don't really like my teeth as well, there are gaps in them and I don't like the yellow on it. I don't really want to wear braces so I guess there isn't really a way to close the gaps unless I get veneers, which would not only close the gaps but whiten as well, but then, I would have to have a whole entire role of veneers put in because if not, the whiter part of the veneers would not match my natural teeth. Its going to cost alot of money so I probably won't be doing them.

Btw closetnerd, why does braces cost $6000? It sounds awfully expensive. Is your case quite bad? I have had one relative spend some $5000 on his, but his teeth were really crooked, all the others I've known who wore braces are in the $3000 plus range. Is there some kind of medical subsidy you can apply for?

I use 35% carbamide peroxide to whiten them, and whitening trays I got from wallmart, and this works really good If you want to whiten your teeth.
To awardwardamanda sensodyne pronamel toothpaste is great for enamel. It doesn't have much taste at all, it is what I use b/c my dentist told me my enamel was weakening and it worked wonder. Also I got selents put it the crevices of my teeth. It was free b/c of my insurence, but I believe the cost is pretty low anyway. They stay for life and it helps keep food from getting stuck in your teeth.
@ fighter86 I have a small gap between my front teeth, a cross tooth( a tooth that slants outward) and a 70% overbite.Other than that my teeth are pretty strait, but just don't look good. My insurance covers $1,500, but still that's $4,500!!!
I am kinda scared to get my overbite fixed b/c I don't want my jaw to stick out to much, I think it would make me look manly.

I can't say I really pay that much attention to other people's teeth, but if I did notice that someone had perfectly straight, white teeth I'd probably think it looked a little weird. A bit like when someone has gone overboard on the cosmetic surgery and now look like they're constantly surprised.

Sometimes less is more.

Yes, this contributes a lot to my anxiety around people. It seems like all my friends have straight teeth. My teeth are 95% straight except one of my front teeth. This is why cover my mouth when I laugh.:/

I was always self conscious of my teeth and seldom smiled because of it. I thought everyone was better than me because they all seemed to have perfectly straight teeth and were happy, well adjusted individuals. Recently I did the Invisalign treatment and my teeth look better, but they are definitely far from perfect. I have gum disease, bone loss and a few oddly shaped teeth. In spite of that I feel better about myself and smile more freely. I know I did what I could to try and fix them and I've learned to live with my imperfections.

My old dentist once said "You have such beautiful teeth", but I never really thought about them that much.
Then about ten years ago, I had my bike locked at a bus station for a few hours. Someone thought it would be funny to unscrew the quick-lock on my front wheel, so after riding about twenty feet, the wheel popped off and my face smashed into the cement, breaking my four upper front teeth. I had to walk a mile home with a wrecked bike and a blood-splattered, dripping face and chunks of tooth lodged in my throat.
Got a lot of shocked looks tho' (which was actually kinda fun::p:). The dentist fixed them back up, but the fake pieces are a bit yellower than the rest. Doesn't bother me though.

As for bad teeth:

Audrey Hepburn had some of the worst teeth in Hollywood. And she has more than a few fans.
Don't let it bother you.
Besides, perfect teeth kind of scare me.
