I've had enough... I'm leaving

The society and all these unwritten rules puts just too much pressure on me. So I've decided to do what I was thinking for the past year - I'm going to live in wilderness for some years :)

This might sound crazy but I was unknowingly preparing myself for this. My grandfather built a small wooden shack when he was alive so he could go there for some time to relax. The shack is situated really really deep in the forest - i checked out on Google Earth and the nearest village is 300 kilometers away! There is, though, a road nearby (around 5 or 10km away) but now it's not used anymore and is probably overgrown with plants.
The shack has a small stove in it and an improvised bed and also some other things which are all hand made like table and pair of chairs if I recall correct.

So this is a perfect spot for me. I won't bother to try to tell how beautiful the landscape is around cause there are no words to describe it. There are some lakes around an a river nearby.

So now, I will take spend my savings on one solar cell plate to power my notebook in the evenings. I have already arranged for 3g internet and paid for one year ahead as I have 3g card in my notebook so I'll have internet access and will report here if anyone will be curious.
Will also buy some food for starters. I am aware that the first few months it might be hard because I'll have to fish and catch some other animals to survive but I have skills for that (been in a survival camp for one month two years ago).

I have everything planned out and I can't wait. But I must not rush, there are things which need to be taken care of first. My mother is already notified about this although she isn't very pleasant with this idea. Anyway, she agreed to drive me to the nearest location. And when I was a kid I was in this shack for holidays for a few weeks and it was fantastic!!

The only thing I haven't figured out is how I will transport all things to the shack. I have one fully loaded big rucksack and a big bag of important stuff.

See you all!

By the way - the breaking point for me to decide I'll do this is watching "Alone in the Wilderness" which is a great documentary about a man living in the wild for 35years on Alaska.

Thats a nice adventure... even though i wouldnt like to live alone.. But id rather live in nature than never touch the civilization again.. Just gives you this peace of mind you will never find anywhere else..

Reading this thread brings me so close to my heart and inner thoughts. I am actually reading into the wild at the moment and watching the film over and over.I can't think of anythiing nicer than living with nature, the truth and reality that has not been tainted by our societyes greed.

It makes me sick to see how society waste so much of their tim and energy creating wars, political confusion, greed, hypocricy, moeny and materialism.

they all forget that our world was given to us to embrase and live in harmony with.

People seem to love to live in sin yet closer to God and the beauty of his creation.

even though it may be hard you are going to experience moments of unexlainable joy. Embrace those moments and surf that emotional wave for as lond as you can.

I admire yur courage and will to live for you

Wish i can join you

That's a great inspiration. My only potentially helpful suggestion is to really understand your purpose in this endeavor. Because, sure, you're going out in the wilderness, but it may not be for the same reason Richard Proenneke went out to the wilderness. For him, I imagine it was for a distinct love for the wilderness which kept him alive for 35 years, and not so much becoming more rugged socially. In fact, by the time he came back, he was already 80 and about to die, which left no room for a social life, lol.

But yea, not trying to discourage you or anything. Just make sure you have a focused purpose. It'll help you through the difficult times.

Sounds thrilling. I share your frustrations about society and have even thought about living off of nature, in the middle of nowhere. If I had a few people to do it with - whoever - I'd be more certain about it.

Lmao! good luck with that, you will come back worse than ever but whatever floats your boat.

I mean it sounds appealing but maybe only a week or 2, and I'm not laughing at you but I really think it will make things worse for yourself.

See you all!

When I read your post I was reminded of Thoreau and his life by Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts where he lived for over two years deep in the woods meditating. He, too believed that society was fake and the only true religion was nature (who knows perhaps he had social anxiety?). But joking aside I have a few questions:

1. If the nearest village is 300 km away and the nearest road 5-10 km. how are you going to get provisions (you mention cathing wildlife, but if this even feasable or allowed??). What happens if you suddenly fall ill? How are you going to get to hospital? Do mobiles work that far out? What are you going to do in winter when everything freezes up and there is no wildlife to catch? What if the stove breaks down? etc. etc.

2. Going to survival camp for a month doesn't make you an expert survivalst (or whatever they are called). What if a bear suddenly appears?

3. What are you going to do with your solar cell if it starts raining for a week straight?

4. Summing up: are you sure you have thought this through? All the issues and problems you are leaving behind will STILL BE THERE once you get back to civilization again (if you get back!).

Anyway, good luck with that!

it will not help at all trust me. social phobia is alla bout negative thoughts so even if you run to hide in wilderness you will get new negative thoughts there too

i left my work and my collage and hide in my home. the first month was very peace but after this month social phobia come after me. so forget about running and hiding it will not help

there are only one way out no other its called "CBT" and trust me it will do the miracle

I agree completely... SA is always going to be there if u don;t fight it(CBT).. Ggoing to the wilderness is just running away... there is usually a reason for ur SA and that reason will haunt u whether or not ur with people...:)

I see this is coming from the bottom of your heart, but clearly you haven't thought your plans through... SongsOfInnocence sums it up pretty good, there's only two things I'd like to add:
you want to bring your life back to basic, catching your own food, away from society, away from everybody and everything....but you're bringing a LAPTOP with 3G ?????
That's like the opposite of back to basic...its kind of you to report you're daily life, but the whole laptop idea screws your plans up...

Don't you think this would be the worst way of dealing with your SA ever? Completely losing contact with society, living in your own world...think about how difficult it's gonna be when you want to reuptake your normal life....

if you really want to go through with this, then good luck with it...it's a brave decision, and I'm sure that you know better than anyone of us what is best for you :)

I think it's a good idea to try if it's your dream. Because if you don't try, you will have it in your head constantly, until you do it anyway :). It may not work out, or at least not be that easy as you thought, but in the worst case you'll come back home - with experience and ideas how to do it better next time.

wow, what you are doing is like a dream to me. wish i could join you...

by the way as far as SA is concerned, all those who say this will not help, i believe are wrong. i think a year in the wilderness would be better than any kind of therapy from a human being.

I agree with this, though.

Wow, a handful of replies, nice

I see some are concerned about this "adventure" and i appreciate it!

1. If the nearest village is 300 km away and the nearest road 5-10 km. how are you going to get provisions (you mention cathing wildlife, but if this even feasable or allowed??). What happens if you suddenly fall ill? How are you going to get to hospital? Do mobiles work that far out? When I was a kid I would spend holidays with my grandfather and we would catch everything by ourselves. I mentioned there is a river nearby - in that river there were so many fishes that we would have fish for dinner almost every day! We would also make special "rope hook" for rabbits but they were hard to catch. Ofcourse we also had flour to make bred in the stove and other things to eat too. I must admit though, that I have to rethink about the food supplies. In the summer I would be able to grow some plants like potato and everything else. This would mean that I would go back in the "civilization" sometimes to get myself stuff I need. I'll see..

2. Going to survival camp for a month doesn't make you an expert survivalst (or whatever they are called). What if a bear suddenly appears?
I have bought "anti-bear" spray today for the extreme if ever happens. Other than that you need to watch around. It helps if you pee around "your territory" i was taught :D

3. What are you going to do with your solar cell if it starts raining for a week straight?
I won't be on my laptop at the evenings I guess? ::p:[/quote]

And this is not just because SA I just feel so nice and relaxed when I am in nature and I feel really happy when I do stuff for myself like growing vegetable. Gotta go now
