How bad are you with remembering names?

I am pretty good at it but could just be me.
I generally tend to listen to what people have to say
and I also try to remember names.

I really do not like it when someone does not remember
mine.

I dont even remember faces, let alone names. Its very disorienting to have someone come up to you and you have no idea who they are, but you figure you must have met them at some point because they know you! This is a huge cause of discomfort for me too. It gives me problems all the time. Its awful

I can remember the names of characters in books, movies, etc. But when someone is talking to me, I'm so anxious that I usually don't even hear their name. I can't even really focus on what they are saying because my mind is doing backflips. I guess it's just difficult to think clearly under the stress. lol.

Then, when I have to talk to someone again, it sucks when I say "I'm horrible with names... what was yours again?"...::eek::

I remember everybody's names. I never have to be told about birthdays more than once, either.

Names are easy but except for birthdays, I can't remember numbers. If I had to address everyone by a set of numbers, I'd never be able to do it. I can't even remember the phone number of my bf of 5 years.

I'm good with names and numbers, I never forget a phone number or a birthday or even weird things like how tall an actor or athlete is.

A good trick, kind of like Endymion was getting at, for remembering people's names is repeating it to their face when you're introduced.

Example:

"Jake, this is Ben."
"Ben, nice to meet you, Ben."

It kind of forces your mind to change gears and save the name in your memory.

They say it's evolutionary. We apparently have a hard time remembering names when we first meet people because our brains are too concerned with determining whether or not the person is a threat to us. Little things like what to call them and whatnot get lost amid the pesky desire to survive. :D

Makes sense...

I have an exceptionally horrible memory though. I can't remember names, numbers, time, random facts, anything! I also misplace things all the time

I'm TERRIBLE at remembering names. My husband is military...always introducing me to new people whose names I will never remember later. I guess it's difficult when they all have the same haircut and are wearing the same uniform. ;-)

I forget people's names but I'm pretty good at playing it off. For example: if someone gives me their number and I have to enter it into my phone, I just ask them how their name is spelled. One name can have different spellings so it's a convenient way to play off the fact that you didn't remember someone's name. Or if I see someone I know and can't remember their name I'll just say "Hi! How are you?" So far, I've never been caught or at least I haven't been called out.

I've actually forgotten people's faces before. :D I've been told that sometimes I look at people as if I don't know them. Well, that's because I don't realize that I know them. lol One guy got pissed off at me when I couldn't remeber who he was and then proceeded to tell me that he didn't remember me anyway. Thankfully, I remembered him the second time I saw him. I told him that I don't forget a face a second time. Knowing me, I'll probably walk right past him the next time we cross paths. That's alright though because he's probably going to chalk it up to stupidity on my part. I'm just a bimbo. I can't help it! ::p:

Ah, that's a good trick! Would suck if it was someone with a really simple/obvious name though...

"How do you spell your name again"
"...B-O-B..."

I'm usually pretty good at remembering faces and names, but sometimes it takes seeing a person a few times before I'll put them together... like I'll know I met someone named Jane, and I'll recognize that I've seen a certain face before, but connecting the two doesn't always happen after just the first meeting. I'll even see a person I recognize, and even if I don't remember their name, I'll remember where I met them, like if it was at work, or if I shared a class with them, or I met them at my child's school, or whatever the case may be. I'm also really good at remembering birthdays and phone numbers, although I'm slacking with the phone numbers since I program things into my cell phone now...

Lol True! Well, I suppose it could be BAHB. Maybe if you're from Boston you might spell Bob the way you pronounce it. Why someone would decide to spell their name or child's name BAHB I wouldn't not know, but you can easily find people who completely butcher the spelling. My friend had a classmate who's name was Asshole. I shit you not! It's supposed to be pronounced
Ash-olee. I knew someone by the name Latrina. I don't think her parents realized how similar the name is to "latrine"

lmao! I bet he or she recieved a lot of BS from others. I once saw a German travel bus named "****ER". I did a double take. I wish I had gotten a snapshot of it. Actually, I just found it on YouTube! HA! I have proof! And it is not inappropriate or obscene because it is the actual name of a bus rental company. To think there might be someone out there with such a last name! :)

I've heard of people with the last name "Pounani"! lol My friend who works at the bank had to call a client and his name was "Pounani". As soon as she said "Mr" she started laughing her ass off. She's normally very professional but she couldn't help herself.
