Hi!

I'd like to tell how I feel, but it wouldn't fit in "the how do you feel?" thread.
I can't study these days when I got 2 and half week left of the exams and I got 4 more exams. I constantly keep worrying about my future, about my interests and that I am a nobody and have no style in any kind of way.
Why do I worry about the future? Because everything seems so hopeless for me. I don't know what to live for seriously, I got so few interests that involves other people, and I see everyone else are so damn successful and proud of what they already reached, everyone else have relationships, and I'm talking about anything that makes someone social - I'm extremely jealous of them, and I get angry on them which is a "projection" of the fact, that I'm angry on myself. Everytime I try to study I think of all these things and 1 more thing.
I study in a tech university I applied to the uni because I wanted to be an engineer. But boy I wish I had more interest in engineering, because I still don't have after 3 years but I'd like to have. Isn't it a bit crazy? If I'd just stop uni and start doing something other I would be even more depressed, because I trashed 3 years out of my life. I am so damn immature.
And my social fear won't allow me find my own path, I feel all the depression right there in my stomach. If only I had interests and a little confidence in talking to people and patience so I can get friends and the ability to have fun with them without any obstacles, I wouldn't worry one bit. ::(:
If you feel like replying please do so, I want to see comments from everyone!

I'm sorry Daniel, I don't know what to say but it seems to me you're focusing too much on the future. I did the same a while ago and what helped me was not thinking too much ahead, we never know what might happen. Just try to focus at the moment. Of course there's no switch and you still might feel a bit worried at times. Some people are more successful than others, but it doesn't mean you ever won't be. I'd say keep working for what you want, it might take a while before you reach your goals. But its not impossible.

If you lack motivation for Engineering, then maybe you should try out some different classes on campus and talk to your advisor about it. As for the future, you should think about it, yes, but don't obsess over it. You've got to beat the present to get to the future and your present right now is those exams. Deal with those, then worry about the future.

If you want to talk to people, then all I can really tell you is to do it before you worry about it. You could also make yourself approachable by smiling and looking positive, which should make people want to approach and talk to you. And your interests should be something you follow, whether they involve people or not. You'll meet people either way you go, so try to make yourself happy while doing it.

One last thing, you aren't a nobody and don't compare yourself to people. You haven't lived their story and they haven't lived yours. We are all different, go through different things, and evolve in different ways and at different times. Plus, those that look happy and proud may not be as happy as you think. Sometimes, people smile because they don't want to break down. Worry about yourself and where you want to take your life.

hi daniel i finished a course that was not really my passion. it took long for me to do it and i always wanted to change. it took me abt 5 1/2 years. and 1 1/2 years not enrolled. i dont regret it one bit graduating and getting the degree. u have 1 more year. ur very close.

engineering is a very good degree and it can earn u a solid living. but u can always keep ur eyes open. its good to have a back up college degree.

how old are u? its ok not to have acoomplishments.. its all relative. we all have accomplishments, going thru another tough day, the successful peeps are lucky, they don't know the struggles of other people but we cant compare ourselves we have our own paths to walk and shoes to fill just hang in there.

yeah, srijita is right. focusing too much on the future brings nothing but stress. You never know whats going to happen tomorrow, anything! It might be easier said than done but just trying focusing on the now, on today. Thats all you can do, just take things one step at a time.

Your last sentence - worrying about myself and where I want to take my life - I worry about that each day, that is why I can't find peace with myself.
Where do I want to take my life, you may ask.
I can't find an answer only I know for sure that I want to try out 1 or 2 things which I am interested at that involves a group of people, and of course I have to meet brand new people for that. Apart from that I would just sit at home playing stupid video games maybe watching stupid youtube videos.

I'm a bit in the same situation as you. Exams very soon and not really interested in my engineering course. But then again, I don't think there is anything I could be interested in anyway.
The only things really motivating me in my engineering course are the 2 years I've already spent studying it and giving up will seem like I have wasted my time and the prospect of the money I will be able to make.

hello daniel.

i think the best thing would be to concentrate in the present and make the best of it. you say you don't enjoy what you are studying. just try to not think about that right now, and just live the present. i also worry about the future, but it doesn't bring us anywhere, we will olny get more depressed, until the whole is too dark and deep.

good luck
