I dont get it?
Why do the posts that matter on this site have the least amount of views?
Now keep in mind i dont necessarily dislike these posts!
Why do pointless posts like.....
"LETS COUNT TO INFINITY GUYS"
get more views and more feedback then ones where people are asking for help or providing some sort of resource for some self help?
I get that alot of you want some escape from the real world. i do i get it...
But where do you cut the line bewteen escapism and saying to yourself..
"I want to actually get better"
When are you going to realise that this problem is not going to get easier for you , its not going away when you are sitting here and using the site like its a video game.
I see some of you guys have been here for a very very long time.
Im starting to really question wether or not any of you have any sort of heart or determination in this fight.
Get angry get upset , get motivated and do something about it.
This doesnt necessarily go for all of im sure....
Im also sure alot of you will consider this post pointless...

Some people (like me) are improving their issues but choose to continue coming back here just because they consider everyone here a friend.

i think some people dont feel comfortable giving advice on here.. i notice we have a lot of people who just read and NEVER post anything.

Not pointless
I'll be honest, at the moment, I don't have the heart. Energy is not there. I can barely get out of bed, and the reasons? First of all, I think I have lost hope that life can be any better in society... Social anxiety is not even on my mind lately, because my main issue right now is not seeing myself as a worthless piece of **** that needs to be crushed into the ground. Right now, it may not look like I am improving, I have been here a long time, (I feel like i'm justifying myself, oh well) and over the time I have been here, I have gone through periods of challenging my social anxiety. Right now, I'm in a rut, and it's progress enough that I get out of bed, or run on the treadmill.

I agree with you, for those who really, really want to get over social anxiety. If you want to, you try to. Simple as that. I'm not even sure I want to, because as I said, I feel worthless, contagious and constantly inferior and now-a-days am losing hope that I can do this alone.

But, I believe I will want to enough to begin again challenging myself. Up and down and up and down...

Maybe the pointless ones get replied to more often and are thus bumped up into view more. Ones requiring more thought disappear down the bottom. The pointless posts serve a purpose of creating some lightheartedness that help keep moods up and counters the seriousness of the deeper threads. A little bit yin~yang, I guess.

The "pointless" ones are not completely without purpose, in that they represent social interaction. They get lots of posts because they are relatively simple.

Doing so on the Internet is probably less daunting, so they can serve as a first step (not necessarily a dead-end). The "Person above you" thread can help with hyper-sensitivity (a standard feature of social phobia) if you use it to de-sensitize yourself to comments which may not be all that you hoped for.

There are other classes of threads which could also be criticised, such as ones to do with death, and topics which should not be mentioned in polite society (which - for that very reason - I shall not mention). It is not hard to work out which ones fall into the latter category.

Having said that, I agree there are worthwhile threads which do not get enough attention, such as those about medication and therapy. The recent one by DespairSoul about medication and therapy did not receive as many posts as some others, but yet she seemed satisfied that it was a worthwhile exercise. She got the information she was seeking.

yeah i agree with you , thanks for an actual response :)
Some posts do serve alterior purposes but many do not.

Because it's fun. And because it's much more like 'socialising' with the people on this site than more 'serious' threads on spw, which can get quite depressing after a bit.

but when does it become too much?
Being on this site has its advantages yes, but theres a point where it is only going to do so much to "Socialise" if you can even call it that? Personally the internet is so impersonal i dont believe it is socialising.
I dont pretend to know any of you, because i dont. All any of you are to me is a username with a picture that for all i know is your brother OR sister or whatever.

I agree with you on this. I have made a few serious threads and i've gotten a good amount of 'views' (because of my 'stand-out' titles::p:) but they don't post a reply. It is very frustrating because I am looking for advice and help while other people just want to "write a story" which is pointless and annoying. Sometimes I feel like I should stop going on here and just really start trying harder to overcome my SA, but I always come back because I need HELP.

But some people just rather play games or count numbers. Extremely frustrating. And they make excuses like: "Well the serious topics are a little more depressing". Well of course they are because this is a SOCIAL PHOBIA website. What do you expect? Annoying...

Great post Confusedd,:)

I noticed alot of replies given do not answer the question, but a short story of simularity.

A reply or post from someone who is making progress is going to be different from someone who still struggling.

Everyones comments on SPW are welcomed... even mine!

Kind Regards Darryl

This topic comes up every so often.

The "fun" threads create a sense of community. It makes it easier for those who would probably be too self conscious to post to come out of their shell a bit before getting serious.

Unfortunately the fun threads also have a side effect of basically making some people here "popular." For a site dedicated to SA and other social issues, having a "popular class" here and having it bumped all the time leads to a great deal of resentment and antagonism.

The best advice is to get your own reasons for coming here into perspective. If you come here for support and advice, then so be it. If you feel you want to socialize alittle, do that too. Your reasons for coming here are your own and it does not matter what others do with the site.

I just got a negative rep for this? REALLY?
if it makes you feel like crap, then maybe you should think about why your using this site. Tough love friends , because all this "feel good" crap is becoming redundent and contrary to the purpose of this site. So who ever negatively repped me , im sorry if this did not make you feel "good" about yourself. Maybe try taking this constructively...
Also call it what you want?

"Light threads have a purpose" bla bla bla (and sure they might)
But in the end? i said in my Original post that im more upset at the fact these posts get so much more traffick then some others

Well I agree with hoddesdon for the greater part. I think some of the threads on here just allow for a bit of fun and interaction between other members. Perhaps because many of us are so starved for human interaction that coming onto the forum and just being a bit silly is an outlet for what we lack in the real world. Also I think in the more serious threads there is always a chance of disagreement or an argument of some kind as everyone has different opinions at the topic at hand, and not everyone would want to put themselves in that position.

I myself am sometimes hesitant to put myself out there to help others because I am a little self conscious about what people will think about what I have to say, or whether or not it would even be valued at all. If on the other hand I posted a youtube video of a a great song, I am still able to participate in the site, and show that I may have something in common with other members... which may even lead to a friend request... :)

But you are right, there are some topics that are ignored, and they shouldn't be . Every thread that is started is important to the OP and deserves a response of some kind as the primary purpose of this site is recovery and support.

A lot of the time, many of us simply don't have the answers if you're looking for advice. Someone might share a story because they can relate--it's unfortunate that someone else might find that annoying. We are the patients here, not the doctors.

That's also a bit of an assumption if you think people who have been members for a while aren't fighting or trying, don't you think? Not everything happens where you in particular can see it.
