I understand this completely. I take great care to not look at people, because I dread accidentally making eye contact with someone. Sometimes I try to fight this concern by actually looking around, and of course there is always someone who actually is staring at me lol...I don't really understand why being looked at is, and always has been, so uncomfortable for me, but it is. Can I ask a question? Do you think maybe you look uncomfortable when in public? I think this is something that attracts attention to me sometimes. Maybe this is what is grabbing people's attention, out of basic curiosity or maybe even genuine concern? People can try to rationalize this fear away "no one really cares that much about you, quit worrying so much about what others think, blah blah" but we all know this is beyond logic. I also think most people are completely unaware of how invasive it is to stare at someone. This goes beyond culture rules, in my opinion.
