Yes. I've been called a snob a lot. I'm really, really shy around new people. I guess that makes me come off as rude or uninterested. When in actuality I'm listening very hard and trying my hardest to be polite and make a nice impression. I'm just terrible at small talk though.
I remember this time summer camp when I was 11. I had never been at an overnight camp before and I had a hard time talking to all these strangers.
What I will never forget is when we had to do a group activity I had no group because I was too shy to ask. A girl asked me if I would like to join their group and I was so happy, but then another girl looked me dead in the face and said "I don't want to work with her, because she's a big snob". What do you even say to that? After that the label sticked. My three roommates (who all were very chatty and formed an instant clique) asked me, "Sara, why are you such a snob?", other kids wouldn't talk to me.
It's been a name that has followed me from jr.high to highschool to university.
The other popular name I hear a lot is weirdo. I'd rather be called a weirdo because I know I am a little weird, but snob is just downright untrue. So that name hurts a little...
