So I was putting Xmas decorations away when I rediscovered my old board game Crack the Case. I loved playing it, but sadly didn't get that many opportunities to as Monopoly, Life and the others were more popular with everyone. I was thinking maybe I could play it here at SPW. Perhaps gather a group of people on ChatBox and have a go of it.
Let me describe how it works. Each 'case' includes a murder or a mystery for the players to solve. You are given a brief bit of information regarding the facts of the case and from there have to ask me questions in order to find out the who, how and why. For example: Mr. Johnson lies dead in the water, wearing a plastic raincoat. What you have to answer is: Who killed Mr. Johnson? How did they do it? And why? And the twist is, I can only answer your questions with a 'yes', 'no' or 'irrelevant'. So you can't ask me, who killed Mr. Johnson? But you can ask, was Mr. Johnson married? I'll say yes. Then you'll ask, did Mr. Johnson's wife kill him? And I'll say yes. Or no. Whatever the facts are is what I'll confirm. And if you ask a question that is irrelevant to the case, I'll say 'irrelevant' so you don't go off on a line of questioning that gets you off topic.
Any of that make sense? Any of it sound fun? If anyone is interested in giving it a go, you can message me and we'll try it out. Or, as I mentioned, I might try to gather a group of people to play on ChatBox in real time. That is if there's enough interest in it. It's actually quite fun (as well as frustrating) once you get the hang of how it's played. Each case is very difficult, and at times the scenarios are somewhat preposterous. But no moreso than your average episode of House, Monk or Murder She Wrote's plot. Each of those, by the way, preposterous and awesome! So, yeah. Consider it.
Have a happy near year, everyone.
