Who deserves to be a "CONTACT" in your phone.

Hmm, this does sound a bit elitist.. Or possibly zen/minimalist/sanity restoring - depending on your circumstances...

I've found use for some people's phone numbers years after I last called them.. It's called 'networking' (?)

That said, if some people or their phone numbers do make you uncomfortable, it's your phone.. You can just add a few people, and then add the old sim card directory (when/if you need it :D)
And you don't need to send those people your new number, you can just keep their number in case you need it (!)

There's hardly anyone in my celly. Just my family, a couple of delivery numbers (pizza/chinese) and a few related to business/work. I'm not a social guy so there are zero friends in there because I don't have any. But then that's pretty typical for an SA person.

I mostly have people's numbers on scraps of paper stuffed in my wallet or laying around on my desk in the piles of paperwork

either that or in my MS Outlook contacts on one of my laptops

apparently, I'm not very organized

besides, it's just as easy to press 10 buttons to dial their number as it is it drill down through the menu to find it

Yep, dial the 10 numbers. Then forget why I am calling.

It's not about like deserving to have some "status" of being a contact.

It's just people's numbers who it's useful to have, because occasionally I talk to them on the phone/text them. If I communicate with someone once using a phone, they will be a contact, why not? I might talk to them again sometime. And the phone is a lot easier of a place to have numbers than on paper lying around somewhere unless you are very organized with that.

Its easy to have contacts on my phone mostly for work purposes. Even when I got my blackberry my blackberry contact list has 20 peps in the first week (mostly work).

As far as your question, just have the contacts you need and the others just erase or don't add. When I had to change my number and did a mass text. Alot of peeps replied and updated what is going on in our lives and a couple wanted to hang out.

I basically erased everyone from my past life, out of sight, out of mind. Now, the only ones on them are colleagues, ex-colleagues, and family.
