What should I do with my friend who wants to suicide?

I have an online friend whom I talked to for years on the internet. He had expressed a will to suicide since I've known him but it has gotten more serious recently. He said he'll order a bottle of anesthesia for animals and drink it all. I'm worried that he'll really do it. He said that every persons' relationships seemed unreal to him, including his own family and friends, and that every person is a stranger to each other. He thinks that there is no meaning in life. I told him that's not true but he was stubborn about it. I want to change his mind but I'm not good at convincing others and I'm totally not a specialist at dealing with suicidal people. What should I do? I don't want to lose my only friend who I can talk to and free to be myself with.

Unless he's a veterinarian, I highly doubt he can get his hands on a bottle of anesthesia. And it would have to be a pretty darn big bottle (like, huge). And I'm not sure that drinking it would have the intended effect anyway. Sounds to me like he's in a lot of pain but maybe just still in the "cry for help" stage. I would encourage him to call a crisis hotline asap.

Have you told him how much he means to you and what would happen to you if he died?
Yes, I have told that to him some times already but he said I have my mom to be with me. I told him that's a different thing than a friend but he didn't reply.

He said he had a bottle of it already but it's opened for a long time so he can use it anymore.

Well, my point is, I don't think he's serious about the whole drinking anesthesia thing (it's kind of silly). It sounds like he is merely telling you these things because he needs and wants your help.

^ Sounds like the best idea.

And when he says that you still have your mom, you should tell him that just because you have your mom it doesn't mean he doesn't matter to you.

He sounds like he needs to unload his troubles and is desperate for someone (you) to listen and take his emotions seriously. I don't think he is serious about suicide or else he'd have done it already.

My daughter is an R.N. and a recent patient of hers tried to kill himself, by shooting himself in the head. He only managed to blind himself. He is in his mid 20's.

Another patient took some pills and damaged their liver and kidneys.

It's not so easy to kill yourself.
