What is your greatest hope?

Again, I'm trying to counter our natural pessimism. I know most people's hope and fear are flip sides of the same coin - getting over this and staying this way - but let's look at the upside.

My greatest hope is to become well-known enough (as an author) for people to pay attention and listen to me. (One of the things I would try to do is spread understanding of Social Phobia.)

That my son will grow up (mostly) happy and mentally healthy and will have compassion for others AND for himself...

...and that I will somehow escape this mental torment.

I feel more hope for him than I do for myself.

I want to be truly happy. Even though I smile on the outside, I'm always crying on the inside. My happiness is so superficial. I'd also like to be able to meet someone someday, because I don't want to spend my entire life alone.

The ocean can't die unless we try to kill it. And to get over this but my 2nd choice is a swift painless death not from my own hand

Jesus Christ....

Cause no matter what happens or how messed up I am, he'll pick me up in the and wipe away every tear and heal every pain. In the end, I wanna run into his arms, curl up, and lie in his arms like a baby in his fathers arms... never alone and forever loved.

Humans have been using the oceans as their toilets since time began. Industrial waste is turning the water toxic and overfishing, global warming, endless cargo ships and oil tankers, etc. will turn the oceans into a cesspool.

My greatest hope is to die and go to heaven :D I have to make big changes in my life, if I want to achieve that.

Yea the ocean is so fragile that's why it's existed for millions of years before us and will exist for millions of years after us... Industries aren't allowed to dump toxic waste in the oceans, and waste that's not toxic isn't very bad. Global warming doesn't exist and cargo ships are miniscule

I have to agree. Though the oceans aren't the only things in danger. It's hard for me to think about the future of the world and my future at once. They're on such different scales.

If you actually look up the science behind global warming it's all bogus, it's the biggest hoax i've ever seen in my life.

Argue your point. If you're going to make claims like that, we can at least debate it.

Notice over the last 10 years how the temperature has actually remained constant yet our output of carbon dioxide is constantly increasing? how is that explained. There are natural cylces that have to do with solar cycles (more solar flares means greater magnetic flux which means #1 more radiation emitted and #2 it deflects cosmic rays which are the main nucleation points for clouds, which block a lot of radiation). Another cylce has to do with the position of the earth in the milkway which also changes the flux of cosmic rays.

i'm in the middle of a game and would list more points but will later if you refute any of that

If you actually keep up with the global warming mumbo jumbo the way the supporters explain this is they say "it's not necessarily global warming anymore, it's systematic global climate destabilization".. Which is the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen, it's now not the climate that's necessarily the temperature but the derivative with respect to time of the temperature, are you serious? next they'll say it's the second derivative. The climate was never stable before, never will be. Another thing is the largest greenhouse gas is water. It's so large that in most parts of the world it absorbs 100% of the radiation that's of the spectrum CO2 absorbs, another bit of CO2 walking around isn't going to do anything. To think we've been on this cliff and just increasing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by what? 0.002% or something? I think quite a few orders of magnitude less per decade is going to end all life ? That's laughable, the CO2 level in the atmosphere has gone from 0 to many many orders of magnitude larger than it is now throughout the earth's existence and life has always survived.

Can we keep this a positive on topic thread and keep the global warming argument crap for another thread?

Just a suggestion :)

Love to, but how do we force a thread to go another direction? Hopefully, it'll be over soon enough.

Call me blind, but I'm not seeing it. The temparature average keeps going up. The graph only goes to 2000, so you can't argue anything about the past eight years.

Scientists can find out the temperatures for the past hundreds of thousands of years, and we are well above it. I'll post some graphs later.

We can also continue this argument on PM if it's offending people.

Isn't it sad that we have to hope for some other race of beings to save us from our stupid-ass problems?
