What does this mean?

If someone says hi to you in pm and never replies when you respond, or replies a few times but only after a long gap of time between replies.
Of if they say something like : well nice talking with you, i have to go to sleep now. and then stay on the forum for another 2 hours answering threads.

Did it mean they changed their mind? or they found you boring or you offended them in some way?

Sorry for such silly question but I really don't understand how to handle these types of things.

hmm well I know that I sometimes cut off conversations on PM because I'm afraid to ruin the conversation so I self-sabotage... I've done this a few times after encountering worthy conversations with people. Maybe that's it? (sorry to anybody I've stopped replying to... it's a "I'll do it later when I have something better to say" sort of procrastination deal x[)

It's probably not you boring. It's just really boring to have an ordinary conversation over the internet. Yeah people have done it to me before but I can totally understand why.

I find it very rude when people do that. Similar situations have happened to me in the past. I usually end up confronting them asking whether or not they seriously wanna talk or not and if they don't then to just flat out say so.

Sometimes my reply is delayed but it's because my internet connection is not so good from my room and I drift in and out of being online/offline. I will always reply in the end though!

Depends who does it to you...
Some people may have changed their mind about talking to you. Got scared and blew you off. Some might have been involved in a bunch of threads at the same time and only replied to you upon finishing typing...Some might have found you boring (which is unlikely, though), some might have thought you were someone different, but continued conversation with you just to talk to someone new.

Many people who are online are multi-tasking - chatting with several different people at once, posting on two different forums, checking out Facebook, looking at porn, eating a sandwich, watching TV, etc...

They might be distracted.

They might really intend to go to bed,.... soon, but wait, let me just post this one...last...thing....

Don't take another person's distraction personally.

If you absolutely require someone else's complete, undivided attention - you should probably engage them face to face rather than online.

Some times the chat function has some problems so when people write the other person does not see what they wrote. I have tried that some times.

If a person says he is going to bed, I would expect him to go to bed, but of course he/she has the right to check the forum threads, this has nothing to do with you. To be in a chat is very instant, answering a thread people can decide if they want to answer or not, that is more hard in a chat, where the other will expect an answer.

Don't think too hard about it. People are busy and cant talk all the time, plus people just don't care enough about a random stranger over the net to even think about whether they are being inconsiderate or rude. Most the time they don't even know it. I wouldn't even worry about it. Just know that it has nothing or very little to do with you. If for some tiny chance the person didn't like you, **** them then they weren't good enough for you.
