What do you guys think of this generation today?

I think we're all focusing too much on the negatives here. Teenage pregnancies, STI's, drugs, alcohol.

Does anyone know anybody who's doing good? Because I do.

Like you mentioned before, for every troublemaker, there's a kid doing some good with their life. That's how it was at my high school.

True. Again, I'm not denying these things are happening, and I've witnesses people screwing up their lives, but there are others who are not like this.

I don't remember a lot of people from high school, haha.

College seems to be kind of the same, though it seems kinda like the people doing something decent with their lives there outnumber the ones who aren't, though.

If you're choosing to go and do higher education, you're almost certainly wanting to do something with your life. There's always the slackers that bring the ratio down.

Unrelated, but I know a 10-year-old girl who's going to be a very nice girl when she grows up, because she already is. She talks to me and makes sure I'm comfortable before she is. I don't even see her often but that's the kind of girl she is. People like her give me hope for the future.

I know a 23-year-old girl who is the complete opposite. She does not give me hope.

-Apparently there's been a big rise in the number of C.E.O's under 25 years old
-Information is easily accessible to anyone with a computer and the internet - or even with a telephone/ cellphone
-Technology is still advancing- as well as the sciences
- Human rights issues are more out in the open as well as animal rights
-eco friendly is FINALLY cool (only 50 years too late)
- music artists have a much larger market to advertise and share their stuff with the world without belonging to a producer who will edit them and shove them into a prepackaged image

errr... can't really think of many more positives that can't be grouped in with my previous points.
It's hard to focus on good things.

I guess it depends who you ask. There's a lot of catching up to do and I hope we're not past the point of no return.

There's something we can complain about to past generations: their love affair with power, oil, and waste has led us to feel the brunt. Maybe our kids and our kids' kids will feel it even more.

I dont like it,but I cant compare with others before since I dont know,I dont like how people change relationships like it is just like changing clothes,I dont like all the mindless drug using since you are only paying for some ****head to run his cartel,I dont like how people reward bad people so the behaviour will continue,some girl I know put it best,when I said that I wouldnt date someone because they are married,she said:

Facebook and Twitter.

Don't know whether they are good thing or bad. But people's dependence and obsession with them is certainly becoming a bad thing.

I just hope that they are not blinded by it. Not everyone is communicated via facebook, heck not everyone has access to the internet. There are people out there who struggle everyday for one meal.

All generations have their good and bad. Any older people who say their generation was better only remember the good times. There were certainly bad times!

I don't like the politics but this generation has bought out some good heavy metal music that probably won't be surpassed so I'm very happy about that.

I don't know a lot about past generations or how it felt to be in them so it's really hard to say. I feel like this generation is given the most opportunity and choice in how they want to be and what direction they want to go. I doubt there was ever a time where a person had more possibilities and opportunities, or access to information, than today.

There is a lot of negative about this generation also, namely disease, depression, loneliness, a general lacking of old-time cheap goodliness and community, but luckily I feel that a lot of people are realizing the importance of these things and how badly we need change, even revolution in some areas. We are headed towards some climax or battle that will force change and awareness and that is good!

We are the Facebook and Twitter generation - it's true.

But the label is derived from the trends, not the people.

From what I've seen, we'd just as well be the Fight Club generation.

I could go on and on about emascluation and ennui, but I'd basically just be ripping quotes from the book's heart and I'm not inclined to get red on my new trousers.

I'm not totally optimistic and sometimes I think our generation is pretty bad but past generations were not much better.

What climax are you talking about? World War 3? That would be devastating.

I find it interesting how this generation is more connected in every possible way than past generations with the internet, yet we're just as lonely or more so. Fascinating. I guess when you're on the internet, the world expects less of you.

Well anything is worth human awareness if it will prevent a devastating end to our species! An American government vs. people war in the next 50 years... Money vs. People

Yeah, I know exactly! :: The internet does not convey hardly any face-to-face contact. So you'll see this text come up on your screen, but you won't know how I'd say it, the sound of my voice, the thickness of my accent, the expressions on my face, my body language, or anything in regards to interpersonal communication. A side-effect of the internet, if you like.

House phones are becoming obsolete now, anyway. Why we still have one when all of us have cell phones is beyond me.

You're right in that the internet conveniences everything and I am too far in to get out now!

I don't care about what other people do, I'm not part of their society, I'm not part of this generation, I'm just myself. Let them do what makes them "happy".

I remember my grandma saying this generation sucks because they are so many black people. I remember my mother saying this generation sucks because everything is too expensive. My sister says this generation sucks because of the crappy music. A lot of what people complain about today (drug use, unwed pregnancies, stupidity, people being brainwashed, lack of respect) has all been done before. For a LONG time. The only difference is how it was delt with and it was considered taboo to talk about some of these. People just got "rid" of the problem and never talked about it. Or beat their kids into "respecting" them. People used to hate Indians. Then Africans. Now gays. When simple rock n roll music came about (the kind that many love) people thought it was disgusting and the devil's work. People have smoked things for centuries that got them high. Tattoos and piercings have been done for a very long time. People who are overweight used to be accepted, now it's just the opposite. Women have been trying to change their appearances way back in history. Now we just have plastic surgery. There will always be bitter people who just like to hate things.

All of that being said, I like what this current time has to offer. The internet alone makes me so much less lonely. I do enjoy a lot of the music and TV shows right now. I love the fact that people are a lot more open about a variety of issues (gay/lesbian, emotional problems, racial, animal rights, so on). I like that people are finally trying to be less wasteful and not abuse the only planet we have. The only thing I don't like is the housing/education bubbles that are happening, and the concern that not only myself but the very young children in this world might have to go through a depression that hasn't been seen for quite a long time. By the way, I think a generation counts as like 30 years. So I'm probably included in the newest generation. Whatever the case, I loved the 90s
