Didn't go to work today. The roofing crew was putting my new copper roof on my house and with all their hammering and beating/banging on the roof I didn't get any sleep at all. After they were done for the day I got up and was outside looking at their work they had completed when a neighbor woman came running hysterically to my place. That ain't normal at all. Me and the wife were both outside and she ran to us screaming and crying that something was killing her dog! She didn't know what it was but it came out of the woods and it was fighting with her dog in her yard and she was scared so she ran to my house. What a weird situation, right? So I went in my house and grabbed my hunting rifle and took off towards her house at a dead run. I got there and couldn't find her dog anywhere. Now she didn't know what animal was fighting her dog and we have bear and panthers and wild hogs (also vicious) as well as coyotes and wolves so that's why I took my rifle. I ain't about to go up against a bear or a panther with just my fists and an attitude  So I looked all around her house and couldn't find the dog or the whatever-it-was anywhere. What I did find though was some tracks, and they look like hog tracks. The dirt was so hard there it was hard to tell. And blood on the ground, I found blood.. Now this particular dog ain't a little one, he is a hound/labrador mix and weighs around 70 pounds... and he was gone. Like carried off or dragged the dog off towards the woods. So I had the wife call the state game and fish people and they sent a man down to talk to us. He said he thought it was hog tracks. He also told all of us men in the neighborhood to shoot-on-site, because what kills and carries off a big dog can kill and carry off a small human. Makes sense. Well, I'm married to a smaller size human and I'm a father to three really small humans so I went hunting for this thing for a while. Didn't see anything but a mama deer playing with her baby and a few chipmunks playing in the woods. Tomorrow I'll probably go get some hunting dogs from one of my cousins and get them after the thing. While I was hunting for it I was also looking for the neighbor's dog but I never found him. The kids want to go with me to hunt for it tomorrow but I think I can talk them out of it. I don't want them going with me to find something that mean. Maybe the thing has distemper or something that's made it crazy. Gotta be something like that.
