Suicide by contracting illness

Has anyone considered this?

Perhaps befriend an AIDS sufferer in the locality and look to contract the disease as a result through a blood transfusion?

Why not - I'm giving it some thought.

No way! Why would you want to die a slow painfull death? Besides suicide is not the answer.

I agree with recluse. Dying of any disease pretty much means a slow and painful death, especially AIDS. You'll regret contracting it long before it ravages your body completely and leaves you on the edge of death. The misery of it all would be unimaginable, and you likely wouldn't be leaving this earth any time soon.

Has anyone considered this? Perhaps befriend an AIDS sufferer and be a friend, make a difference to their life.

how would you handle being in a hospital ward with other aids patients knowing you'd done it on purpose? i dont think its a good plan, not aids. thats the worst suicide idea ive ever read. i think its important to choose a method that doesnt drain resources from sick children etc..i know that hospital staff get pretty pissed when people use suicide methods that will inevitably require medical treatment if unsucsessful (for example overdosing on paracetamol which can lead to years of very expensive treatment that genuine kidney patients need)..i dont believe you could just curl up and die without getting any medical treatment at all...visit an aids ward before you do it and consider whether you really want that. how about eating pounds of sugar everyday until you become diabetic and slip into a diabetic coma or befriend a diabetes patient and inject insulin..slip into a diabetic coma and dont get found. even scoring some heroin and od'ing would be better than getting aids thats just...really really stupid and wrong. i feel pretty shitty about myself and my life but even i wouldnt have the balls to face aids sufferers knowing i'd contracted it intentionally! the risk that the suffering would simply prove to me that i hadnt known real suffering would never be worth it. go to your nearest ''no go'' area and get yourself shot. no dont. stay alive and ....just stay alive...you might get run over by a bus tomorrow (if youre lucky) 8O

For this to work you would need to find an infectious disease that is rapidly fatal and incurable or difficult to treat by modern medicine. I suspect most illnesses which have these characteristics are rare and horrifically painful, e.g. flesh-eating bacteria, biotoxins from contaminated food, or necrotizing parasites.

Other diseases such as AIDS and pneumonia, while easier to catch, would entail expensive medication and a drawn-out, agonizing death.

All the rest probably won't kill you, but they'll require costly treatment and put you in some discomfort.

Though it says something if any of these are preferable to your current life situation.

The only reason to choose a slow and painful disease over jumping off a bridge seems to be that it's less obviously suicide. In which case, why not take on extremely dangerous jobs instead? Be an aid worker in Afghanistan, a human rights protester in Myanmar, an anti-government journalist in Russia, or whatever. You'll be dead a whole lot quicker than via AIDS, and people will treat you like a hero.

Don't let us down like that....

Don't want nobody to commit suicide on here, don't want these stupid disorders to beat anyone.

Alot of people think of suicide on here. I do.

Don't bother with suicide, thats cheating, and especially don't bother with AIDS. Thats just more suffering, when you suffer enough as it is.

People with anxiety disorders have little or no people to talk through their problems with, thats why this website exists, so use it and put it to good use instead of just ASSUMING there is no opportunites to make your life better.

Cheers - nice advice and I'm still here! :)

Let me get this straight. Fed up with life, one decides to end one's life by contracting a disease that will take years to be an effective solution? Isn't the whole point of suicide that one no longer wants to live?

So one decides to take action to end one's life. But one must live for years yet to actually die. Your irony has made me smile. Congratulations.

Now, if one did decide on death by living with a fatal disease for years, would one want to have one's life unnaturally prolonged, so one could actually die by suicide? What if one was in an auto accident?

"Doctor, we found this note in his wallet. Apparently we need to keep him alive so he can kill himself with AIDS in a few more years."

Kinda reminds me of G.K. Chesterton's "A Ballade of Suicide"

I never get any vaccination when traveling, antimalarics etc., I don´t even carry pills with myself (xcept of painkillers). I hope I contract something and die, but when I eventually get sick I chicken out and run to the hospital.
