Seeing the Impermanence in everything

Why does there have to pleasantness all the time? When we are happy(having fun) we don't say ,"i don't want this situation". A little pain comes, we are like God how will i get rid of it..!

If we had only happiness in life...is it even possible to appreciate it? And what is happiness? A few pleasant sensations....? feeling light? If we base our happiness on a few pleasant feelings, we are doomed...aren't we?

We have so many defects as human beings...everyone has. And they cause pain....Do we have to be sad till we are perfect? can't we be happy with what we are now? Is it not possible to change our attitude towards un-plesantness of life?

If we watch carefully, the feelings of happiness and sadness are not permanent. Then why do we fight sadness? Why don't we fight happiness? Why can't we live with pain as we live with pleasantness? Both are Impermanent ...why become sad when we have pain and we want more and more happiness? Do we want something that is not in our hands?? How can we be happy when all we want is pleasant sensation?? It's impossible....knowing that both pleasant and unpleasant sensations are impermanent can give us some peace...as in we don't have a longing/desire for them.

How can someone with no hands n no legs be happy? Can we be happy without hands n legs?? Think about it..! I have seen some very very poor people, people with cancer n other sufferings are happy...if they can be, why can't we? We always need something to be happy...lets try to be happy with what we are/what we have.

I agree. And you can't really know what true happiness is until you have experienced and lived through despair. I reckon happiness is the rarest of emotions. It is an emotion that is hard to attain, and if you try to grasp it too hard, it will slip through your fingers. If you leave yourself open to experience then sometimes happiness manifests itself.

I'm beginning to believe there is a lot to be said for neutrality of thought, not happy or sad, but somewhere blissfully in between free of intensity of feeling. Relaxed, peaceful, satisfied.

If I knew it´s only fleeting when I am unhappy, that wouldn´t be a problem at all. I could happily survive it whilst looking forward to the happy period. The problem is, if we have no hope it will ever get better, or we´re fearing it will get even worse.

This is where time-travel could come in handy ... in tough times one could "visit" the future mentally, and replace vague hope with certainty (that the suffering will end).

Ah can relate, there, Lea. Especially that last part about fearin' it'll get worse.
