pro banthine, Avert/Robinul and pharmacy.ca

Hi,

I am based in the UK and have been taking pro banthine for a while. It usually works well on an empty stomach (taken at least 45 minutes before any breakfast), but has some side effects on me, including tiredness, bloating, sensitivity to light and fogginess. Also, I have been prescribed some 15mg tablets, but sometimes it's best for me to take only half. They can't prescribe 7.5mg tablets, and the tablets are messy to cut.

I understand that Robinul/Avert may have fewer side effects (as it does not interfere with the brain as much), so I have ordered some 1mg tablets from pharmacy.ca.

A few questions:

1) Does anybody know how long it takes for it to be delivered to the UK from pharmacy.ca, and if the UK customs are likely to interfere?

2) Has anybody been successful in getting a UK GP to prescribe Avert or its equivalent? Will I need to referred to a specialist first? A specialist gave me the original prescription for pro-banthine.

3) Any feedback from people who have moved from pro banthine to Avert? I am currently taking one 15mg pro-banthine per day, but usually the effects are gone by mid-afternoon/after lunch. What would the equivalent dose for Avert?

Thanks,
Sam

Hi there
You can get Avert from the Dermatologist like I did. I'm sure it's expensive so it wasn't volunteered to me but when I went armed with info about it she wrote a prescription for it,it was then available on a repeated basis if it worked.

ukchick did it work for your CS?
Hi there
To be honest it was my daughter who used it,she's finding the pro banthine better though.I would say that Avert works differently for different people. I think you have to try it to see how it works for you.

Just to provide an update, it only took four working days for the medication to be received from Canada to the UK. Ordered on Sunday and received on Thursday.

Despite the declared value being slightly above the VAT threshold, no VAT was levied and customs didn't stop the parcel, or cleared it very quickly.

Well impressed by pharmacy.ca so far.

Hi there
First I've heard about it no longer being produced. My daughter has it on repeat prescription and it does give her some dryness on/off throughout an average day.She would go back to Avert I would think even though she was lucky to get an hour of dryness through the day, definitely not as effective as the Pro banthine.x

Here is my comparison between pro-banthine and Avert:

* pro-banthine works quicker: for me, I can take it 45 minutes before eating in the morning. If I leave it longer, I get a very dry mouth. Avert takes much longer to start being effective (probably at least twice longer)
* However, pro-banthine looses its effect quite quickly, typically by early or mid-afternoon for me. Avert seems to last the full day. Basically, its strength is increasing, the opposite of pro-banthine
* side effects with Avert are much milder: no dry mouth, no bloating etc

My conclusion is that, while pro-banthine can be effective, Avert is a much better product, with fewer side effects.

Pro-banthine is available again in the UK now (has been for several months), and seems to be the common medication used on the NHS for hyperhidrosis.

Avert/Robinul and glycopyrrolate are not licensed in the UK, and therefore not given on the NHS. I saw a dermatologist and gave me a prescription, but it was private so the cost of getting glycopyrrolate from the USA was around £90 for 100 pills (received by the clinic the next day), so probably a bit more expensive than ordering myself from pharmacy.ca

my Dermatologist said he has no solution for my sweating, he said pills like avert are banned here.. he didn't even propose me antiperspirant .. i ordered (odaban which arrived and driclor not arrived yet) by myself which does not seem to work btw :(
