This metaphor has always been a pet peeve of mine. Because it's really not up to opinion whether it's half full or half empty. It depends on -how- it got to that 50% content. Was it empty before; half full, was it full before; half empty.
I do get the idea behind the metaphor, but it's just the visual representation that bugs me.
